Bush Plane Landing on EXTREME Mountain Runway
This runway located in the Star Mountains of Papua, 12 minute flight from Oksibil village and located in the same valley as Kiwirok. It's position relatively to the predominant up and down valley winds can make it a real challenge to land, specially if with a quarterly tailwind.
The locals are very friendly and often give me bananas to take home.
The flight was recorded over a year and using only one camera for the main footage.

Single engine ops over that terrain? Can't believe the max takeoff weight isn't exceeded once the pilot's balls are factored in.

Not to mention the eggs, the pots and the pans. Having spent close to 40 years flying in the cloistered airline industry I doubt if I would survive a week doing this sort of work.
While taking my father in a Cessna to visit and buzz his brother's home in northern Minnesota he opened up about his time in the Pacific. He said the last time he was in a small plane he was delivering a pig which he held in his lap to a small village in the jungle. The pig was a way of thanking the villagers for their help with driving the Japanese off of their island. I wish my father had been able to get some pictures of the pilot and the strip they surely would have been remarkable.

That's such a awesome story. Thank you so much for sharing it 🙏☺️
My dad helped build runways like that in PNG as a Kiap in the 60s and 70s. I was born up in Goroka 👌
Ive spent over 20 years working and living in PNG. So much of what these guys do isn't even about flying. The respect and love they show for these people has far reaching effects on these communities. Sometimes the only hope these people have is the planes arrival, with much needed food and medicines. I visited many communities in the "mix-master belong Jesus", (helicopter), and those visits were always eagerly anticipated..

The Best way of flying...ever
The pilot's confidence about the route and the strip they are going to land on made it look beautifully easy. Good work.
Hats off to the pilot...some skilled flying there! And to the people who built that runway...alot of labour, carving out a runway on a mountain side! Wonderful job to all!!! Blessings to all!!

Salute to these village people in the mountains of Papua..they are extraordinary..how they built a runway on top of the mountain..even without the help of a machine..it's hard to believe but it's real..and how the pilot landed his plane up there..hats -off !!
I watched your face closely during the landing and not one little twinge of nervousness. Outstanding!!!!!!

Just another day at the office for an experienced bush pilot.....he knows his airplane, and his basic flying skills are ALL there. I was a CFI-I and stick-and-rudder teaching was my forte. This is that concept applied in the "real world" to perform needed services to very isolated people who depend on these flights. Kudos to this pilot !!
Unsung heroes of a much valued service!
I have no qualifications to say this, but my God you're an incredible pilot. So glad I got recommended this channel/video. Wow.
Smoooooth all the way. Seeing those kids faces as they experience a drone is priceless. Thanks for sharing. Keep them videos coming !!
As a non-pilot, as I read through the comments how easy this pilot made it look. What a pro!!
Oh, super landscapes! Mountains and fog! Clear sky for you! Thanks!
I flew PC-6 in Bangladesh with MAF Austrilia before I joined our National flag carrier Airline BIMAN BANGLADESH. My Chief Pilot was Captain Norm Lathem; I still salute him!!
Flying on a single engnie aircraft over such mountains - brr, goosebumps!
I salute to This pilot. he is a real hero i have seen in my life 😘😘😘
I love this Aviation services while serving remote communities. Full Respect
Amazing video quality ! The Pilatus PC 6 is my favourite bush plane!
Wow, the scenery is just amazing. Particularly the takeoff shows it off. And what a lovely bunch of people!
Big salute to the Pilot ❤️
I really enjoyed watching this. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos. Thanks for putting these together to share your experience. It is so unique.
For reasons youtube suggested me your channel and videos and I love it. The flying, the scenery, amazing to watch. Especially only with subtitles and no commentary it is very enjoyable to watch.
What a wonderful thing for these people living remotely to have this contact. Well done pilot and those financing the aeroplane.
Great community from the pilots to the diggers who made the run way ! Much respect and admiration!
Wow!! That's all I can say about your landing skills! Impressive to say the least!!!
Porter is an absolute beast... the real bush plane
These bush pilots are amazing, I flew dusters for 20 years, and this is a lot more scary !
Nice video all around. Good cameras setup, good editing and interesting captions that add to the overall content.....not to mention some very interesting flying situations. The PIP piece with the rudder work was particularly nice, nice touch repeating the landing footage from different camera angles. I subscribed.
Greatly enjoyed this video! Amazing ops, and extremely well conducted imo. Somehow you still managed to preserve plenty of safety margin. Thanks for sharing! Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.

The best ever footage one can see also most riskiest of landing and Take off. Hats off to this extraordinary skills of this pilot.
I almost ended up there in Papua flying for the MAF 40 years ago, but they told me I was too old lol. Kinda glad now things worked out that way as some of those landing strips (especially at altitude) appear almost suicidal. You are a legend mate... well done and GBU.
Man, you guys are braver than me. I'd be crying like a baby.
You guys are living my dream of flying in pacific islands. Lucky you.
Great video! Gotta say, that's a nice steep sloping runway. I used to fly for Douglas Airways some 30+ years ago on the other side of the border and never had a dull moment flying there.

Congratulations to you guys and also this pilatus porter is such a equipment…👍
wow. It's really fun to experience flying with unusual terrain and pilots can interact more with the local people there. what a very valuable experience from a noble job
Wow! So busy by flying and you take time to make video!! Thanks for sharing Captain!
Wonderful video and story. I was so inspired that I endeavored to find this airstrip in Microsoft Flight Simulator VR. Google wasn’t much help but I was able to get close with the info in the description and fluked spotting it on the map. Unfortunately it’s not modeled accurately in the sim although I was able to land on it in a Boeing Stearman. What an incredibly beautiful part of the world. So many little villages with their handmade airstrips dotted among the mountains. Thanks so much for sharing 😊
That was super interesting! Who knew such a place existed!
it takes great skill and courage to fly a plane in Papua, where there are many mountains and the weather changes frequently, the government must immediately help build road infrastructure so that the economy can progress more quickly.
I had to give up my pilots license due to medical issues. I miss flying so much. Fantastic tail wheel skills. What an experience flying in Papua. God Bless

As a retired airlines guy myself who started flying in tail wheel, I’m very impressed with the abilities of these young men. Wish I could be a reserve pilot.
Fantastic scenery the Star Mountains. I worked at the Ok Tedi mine in the early 1980s, also Ertzberg mine across the border. Yes, the local people were always friendly despite the mines being problematic to say the least. Ertzberg didn’t even have an airstrip, we flew in with an ex-US army Iroquois. I seem to remember the Ok Tedi strip was quite short in a Fokker Friendship.
