It's because of counterpoint. There are actually three separate sounds going all at once, and because one is higher pitched than the other two, it takes the lead and its motif dominates. This is the most repetitive one -- the one made up of just three notes. However, at least one of the other two "instruments" is actually quite busy. Even if you're not paying that close attention, your brain still picks up on this subconsciously, allowing you to genuinely go into a trance or experience an almost visionary journey, in spite of the overall simplicity. There is a very quiet, very subtle story being told here.

I think there's a certain amount of moral stretching us humans can do when enjoying music made by questionable people. Varg burned churches and killed a guy, on top of having some unPC views. Those things seem quite tame in the great scheme of things which are evil. Then you remember that one sick bestard from that one emo band and what he did to a child, and you feel dirty just for thinking about him, let alone going out of your way to listen to his music (which sucked, BTW). Varg's done terrible things, but he's not irredeemable. He's at least honest and takes care of his family.

At the beginning: 3 notes, 25 minutes, really?? Now: Please, DON'T STOP

Without a doubt, this is the most beautiful song I have ever heard, whenever things are really bad, this song is with me.

Starting at 11:44 and again at 12:43 then continuing on… Oh the beauty and tranquility of this mesmerizing piece of art.

It is something magic, I cannot describe exactly how is, but I feel a lot of feelings. When I was younger I used to think that Varg was trying to record a masterpiece, maybe the deepest melody in the world, I was obsessed with the true meaning of the song. But when Varg started to released the videos in his old channel once he said that he just take a synthesizer and just took three or four notes and everything was done. In fact, he did not think about this song since the beginning of the recorded session. How funny is, do not you think?

first he bombards your ears with seemingly endless distortion, then drops an oasis of calm music

This blew me away the first time I heard it. I was just listening to the whole album for the first time and this track started playing. I recall thinking this is some kind of joke, but I decided to listen to it thoroughly. After a few minutes I entered a trance state and these days most of the music I listen to is ambient.

Varg was a creative man when he created this album, and song. This song gives me the chills every time I listen to it

I know that there are people who may not have understood the message of this masterpiece yet,the transcendence of the soul can be contained not only by Varg's music,but for me the Burzum band is something much more than a band,it is something that I cannot accurately explain in words ,at the top of the transcendental pyramid is transcendence,which exceeds everything that surrounds us as humans, for example nature,when we start to feel the strong emotion caused by this piece,it is because it was the most distant point of our subconscious,I know that maybe for some people it sounds absurd,but it is true,not everyone has the necessary ability and the feeling to be able to truly perceive such a masterpiece.

Listening to this on dxm was one of the most interesting experiences I've ever had. I entered into the painting on the cover of this album.

Listening to this while taking a walk through an alpine asphalt road between forests and meadows, in a fog so thick that I could see it move from a few metres away, was not the reason why I travelled 1000 km to get to the Alps. But if it had been, it would have still been worth it.

To be honest, it took me a long time to understand this song and to be able to feel it, this is a true musical masterpiece, every time I listen to it I feel nostalgia, melancholy, and a strong emotion that I can't explain exactly, it's something amazing if this piece really gets you.

Steps: > Go to the forest or beach at midnight > Pitch black, just the waves sound > Lie on the floor > Close your eyes, or keep it open and watch the sky (Optional, you can do some LSD or some 'rooms if you're experienced) Enjoy.

You all probably imagine dark forests or vastly isolated farmhouses in Eurole while listening to this. But for me, this song can only bring one imagination in my head. Purvciems. A microdistrict in Riga. You may think "What the hell does a Soviet time hood have to do with it?" but trust me, you will never see anything more mysterious and gloomy once you walk trough and past those 9 storey housing blocks...

I think this also sets up a world of dark fantasy pretty well, though I think that could be very common interpretation for a song like this 😆, but it also stimulates a few other ideas too.

I think this is one of the very best examples of genious minimalism, the track is simple, long but yet I can't stop listening to it.

I can listen to this song however my mind state is, I simply float with it, when I'm high I'm in space contemplating the earth, when I'm sober I'm seeing the space amazed and without words just like this song

Despite the Nature and mysticism mostly being the center of Burzum's expression, this track for me is all about lost, forgotten nights in the town, going out and wandering with friends, talking about all sorts of things etc. This song is like the air you breathe then, but are not aware of that in those moments.

Your interpretation is fine if I sticked solely to the absolute music, but the song title, which in English means "Circumambulation of the Transcendental Columns of Singularity", points exactly to things that are beyond human affairs and human creations, so it inevitably leads us back to religious naturalism.

One of the greatest songs ever made. I always come back to it.

I always imagine a picture of a man floating through space, right next to a black hole, as we know them illustrated. This song helps me fall asleep.

surprised a lot of people find this soothing/calming. to me its deeply malevolent and dark. the droning monotony recalling the blunted conscience of some kind of psychopath. then these lighter, playful synths are layered on top attempting some kind of resolution - perhaps some kind of wistful childhood innocence attempting to filter through - except even the memory of childhood is soured with trauma and darkness as it lapses back into a minor key

God.. this song is so eerie, so dark yet so calming.. I FUCKEN LOVE IT

Life has a lot of difficulties but we don't give up because life is unique, life is magic, you must learn it's millions spells and how to balance them. Don't be sad that one day you'll die, be happy that you lived this wonderful mystery.

Really gives off an eerie feeling of being lost in another realm.
