BURNISHING? Colored Pencil Technique! How to Draw & Blend Smooth Skin Tone with PRISMACOLOR?
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
@BMDPortraits shares another colored pencil drawing tutorial focusing on layering and blending smooth skin tone using the burnishing technique. I am using the Prismacolor Premier Colored pencil, a wax based colored pencil that requires a unique layering and blending technique. This is mostly a real-time drawing tutorial video where you will see the actual colored pencil drawing process. I tried to speak in English with this drawing tutorial so that i may reach every portrait artist, Filipinos and non-Filipinos,who struggle in using the prismacolor colored pencil in layering and blending realistic skin tone, that even i am not that good in English i hope everyone can understand this drawing tutorial video.
The paper that i use on this colored pencil tutorial is the Strathmore Bristoll 400 series smooth surface. And my reference photo is BLACKPINK Jisoo from new album called Venom.

It’s wild hearing you talk about how you hope your English is clear enough - your English is fantastic! Your knowledge on colour is amazing, I love watching your videos.
Excellent, thanks for the real time demo. So helpful. Your English is fine and I was never bored.
The pencil sounded like a baby butter flys wings hitting the paper. Unbelievable ii was memorized for the entire video. Totally blown away. I have drawing and painting for over 40 years and just started using colored pencils and I'm glad I started with your videos. The bar is set above and beyond, but if I get half as good in 5 years I will be happy.

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this “Real Time” video 🙏It really teaches us how to do all the important steps and showing the colors used is very helpful as well ! Please continue this process with other portraits as well. Going over this process with rough male textured skin would add even more instructional value. I really appreciate your attitude and heart to truly teach us that have just started drawing 😇 John
sir you are an inspiration to me, I thank God for you that He blesses you and your work! you are amazing at what you do!
I really appreciated this video. I’m trying to get my head around the process of making realistic skin tone, and this video helped a lot. A time lapse video would probably just confuse me. And I understood your English completely. I don’t think you need to apologize for your English at all. Thanks again.
This is the video I was looking for and exactly what I needed! Phenomenal work!❤

Outstanding real-time video! I’m not an artist but a beginning colorist and I paid for a class that was good for learning how to layer color pencils for skin tone coloring and your video is the icing on the cake! Most KZread skin tone color pencil layering are way to fast. Your real time layering was slow enough for me to grasp the technique. You are an amazing teacher. Thank you!!!

Kamusta sir! I am new to your channel and I am so glad I found you. First, I want to say that I live in the U.S., but I have friends in the Philippines that I communicate with often and I want you to know that your English is PERFECT! I understand every word you say, so do not be concerned about that. Also, do not be concerned about the video being too long or boring because it is NOT. You offer very valuable instruction in your videos - for Free - and it is worth watching every minute of the video. We very much appreciate the knowledge you are passing on to us. Salamat! I am learning how to use pastel pencils and I have many questions I want to ask you, but for now, I will ask you only 2 questions: 1. Which do you prefer using, pastel pencils Or colored pencils? 2. Which do you find easiest to use, pastel pencils Or colored pencils? I will wait for your answers and I will communicate with you again in the future. Sincerely, Derek (aka Mindanao)

Wow, u really watched d vid, i appreciate it, this really adds up to my confidence, thanks a lot, regarding ur question, both are amazing medium, and produce great output, however i find pastel easier use because its super easy to blend, but unlike color pencil pastels only work on certain type of paper, like sanded papers, which can be very expensive, and so hard to find.
Although I don't work in realism such as you I just want to say that this should be a go to video for pencil artists, just beautiful, your patients is amazing and your work reflects it. FYI, you have great English but I would of gladly watched this in subtitle in your language itself. Amazing video. 👏

I learnt a few things from this. Mostly, be more patient!
Could you do a video on how you select your colors you plan to use? I appreciate this video very much.
I have noticed that as long as I don't let the tip dull down too much. I can keep it sharp without losing a lot of the pigment core to the sharpener. I went from a mid to large sized baby food jar for my sharpening leavings. I used to use the pigment leavings for blank backgrounds to finger shade. Watercolor pencils were good for this way of using up the shaved pigment cores. Now I have very little pigment shavings to use. I get cheaper pencils to get pigment shavings from for those blank backgrounds. I used Prismacolor when I was younger and had gotten pretty good at horse portraits and scapes. Since I have started back into the pencils. I got a pretty good selection from Cra-Z-Art when school supplies showed up at the local Wally world. About 100 pencils and I've been using printer paper. Doesn't look bad at all. It is good for working back up to the selection I had as a teen. I hope to get back to being able to draw horses and orchids again. Maybe include other flowers and such from all over my property now that I am retired and have a lot of time to do this sort of thing. I just have to say, blacks and the near blacks are used up very fast. I have to think of getting pencils that I can buy singles to replace the mostly used colors. Any suggestions of higher quality pencils, besides Prismacolor (I know I can buy singles from them, but they don't have good watercolor pencils

Just ran across this great video! Your english is perfect, by the way, bravo! I have been using Prismacolors for more than 45 years(!!!) and I still love learning different techniques. I loved the way you used so many colors to layer, and watching you finally burnish the color was so satisfying! I occasionally straight burnish (I call it my "death-grip"), and sometimes I even first put down a base layer of ink - those Prismacolor alcohol-based markers. I'm still practicing your way as well. You used the white pencil (and nubbin holder) like I do, I'm curious, how do you feel about the Colorless Blender? There is a lot of hate out there for that pencil, but I've found some uses for it. Please keep up the great work, I'm totally subscribing!

Im not a fan of the colorless blender especially when used on skintones, I occasionally use it on very dark shadows only, because it tends to oversaturate the tones. Wow, 45 years, Im just approaching my 7th and I feel like I still have tons of things to discover!
شرحك اكثر من رائع 🥰❤ لك كل الدعم من مصر بس ياريت تعمل درس عن تلوين الشعر ❤
Thank you so much for this video, the length of time is not important as we learn more with longer videos, love the smooth swing after burnished, you use white prismatic cour right? I notice that even the Polychrom colours are excellent white is nir really good for burnishing, been follow you for long time now and still amaze me all your different kind of colours you use for the skin. I understand your English very good , so don't need to apologise, we are lucky you show us your technique, thank you so much 😊

the Polychromos white is great for blending oil based not so much for burnishing nor to be used with wax based colored pencils.
