I am 48 years of age and from 1984 i start to like reggae music. And from that moment bands like burning spear, black uhuru, eek a mouse, Inikamoze. .. oh man. Pure reggae. Groetjes uit Roosendaal.

Hello from my Dutch hubby who shares your tastes and was at this concert. I too remember the first time I fell in love with Reggae - the same year as you. I saw Bob Marley concert on tv and I danced around the living room thinking "WHAT is this hypnotizing down beat that lifts you up".......? It's called Reggae.! De grootjes van Australia 💓

Saw them live in a small venue in Philly back in early 90's. One of my favourite bands.

Introduced to Burning Spear a yr B/4 this concert with some Jamaican Rasta's whilst travelling at 20,One of my longtime fave"s, even to this very day❤️🖤💛💚

I saw burning spear in London 1982 85 at the Brixton academy with my brother Phill and he's mate Ian very good gigs nice one one love

I just found this. I'm a UK born guy with both parents from Jamaica. Also a MASSIVE lover of Roots Reggae now living in Utrecht. This gig was 8 only years before my my stay in wonderful Utrecht. Shame I missed it.

Geweldig mooi concert, ik zag hem voor het eerst in 1986, People of the World tour in de Oosterpoort Groningen. Ik was 16 en stond vooraan, heb nog wat foto's. Prachtige momenten, kippevel. En alle keren daarna dat hij deze kant op kwam ook natuurlijk!

So true! As far as I am concerned and as a man whose love for Nyabinghi and roots reggae is second to none, I truly believe Burning Spear arguably as good as Bob Marley... Jah Rastafari!

@@ballouarmand4131 they are complementary. Bob was more militant and with various songs. Bob Marley is arguably quite above in he history of Music. and legitimally so.

I seen burning spear 3 times in London at the Brixton academy 1982 83 85 with my brother phill and his mate Ian. All 3gigs were amazing great and very good nights out nice one one love.

KRO's rocktemple. I taped it on a 90 minutes casette and replayed it until it broke. Years later I found it on the internet as somebody digitalized it. 31 years later and I still love Burning Spear. I saw him in paradiso in 84 or 85. Thanks for posting this great concert. Great memories.

@@MrRichardFader Apologies for my ignorance but I do not understand. I meant to say I taped this concert on the radio when they broadcasted this concert. I played it to death..... simply it broke on my last tapedeck in early nineties. Then 15 years later, I discovered it on internet. Somebody digitized his own cassete on a podcast which could be downloaded. So now I have it digitally..only 60 minutes unfortunatelybut better than nothing.

yeah it's just a deeper sound, closer to home. i've heard the Wailers have expressed disappointment with the mixes on their Island Records releases because they wanted a typical roots sound but the producers were often white brits who were going for an international audience. Bob was often distrustful of record companies for reasons like this.

@@dangerousideas5356 It wasn't only the mixes. Extra instrumentation was added. Some of your favorite melodic lines were added to the music by Blackwell. That along with the promotion and distribution put Bob over the top. Bob used the legend Karl Pitterson as an engineer anyway. Karl mixed Steel Push and Peter Tosh as well.

Hey mankind!we can not compare the great Bob, the prophet,the poet and also a comedian a bit. Its has never happened in our lifetime that a voice could filter or run down in the blood of a generation like Marley`s voice , his kids Damian,Stephen ,Ziggy all are blessed with his voice, worse Skip Marley a grandchild.We still gonna remember feel and ululated his voice echoed by his generation...thats how kings live even after they are gone!Much Respect to the king of bass beats , trumpets and orchestral reggae !, the king of serious messaging back to Africa movement! He is more Marcus Garvey idealist. Thats unmistakenly the a leader of band of creative reggae instruments, none other Mr Wiston Rodney!Ever serious Burning Spear!One of the creators of Dub.To me he is unique genre not for everyone.He is next to Marley but not above!Generally Reggae music remains genre that uplifted our voice throughout the globe , enlightened humanity through the message.

Sadly this isn't the full concert. I was 16 at the time, and I recorded the almost 2 hour concert on two 60 minute tapes. It was broadcasted live at KRO radio. I listened to those tapes again and again and again. Unfortunately the tapes didn't last that long. Wish the full concert was still available, one of the best reggae concerts I"ve ever heard.

there are things that Spear just did better than most of the reggae singers / bands of his days... He somehow managed to stay away from the mainstream that pushed every song into an 3.5 Minute envelope... Screw that, he said, and gave 5 minutes to the nyabinghi drums, the riddim and the horn section instead.
