Burning in Tent Stove After Modifications

Ғылым және технология

Just a burn in of the stove to burn in the paint and to test the main alteration of a secondary air vent in the back. I was hoping that the secondary air would help break down the wood chunks in the back that are there due to the baffle (and it did).

Hey John, I have't seen anything on your stove before that my be just me. I hadn't seen any notification's on your build. I will diffidently check it out and watch all you have on it. I'd love to make one of these myself. Maybe just a little bit bigger for my Bugout Trailer I'm building as we speak. I sure got a Super Buy on the New Trailer Complete 30' Frame and then on a used 8'x8'x20' box van body put on the Trailer. with room to make an area for drive on storage for a couple 4-wheeler's also. I also been look'n at the `lil Chinese heaters on E-Bay that run off of diesel too. Have a Day.

Hey John, I’m in the process of modifying my camp stove for efficiency. I put a 1/4” thick baffle, added a rear air intake, that runs from the front to the back via a pipe. I want to build a new door for it, curious how well the glass stayed washed via the air

It doesn't air wash well honestly. Could use some redesign; however, I prefer the glass door to the non-glass door any day. I can get an idea of how much wood is in the stove from my bed based on the amount of light coming from the stove.

@@JohnHarmon thanks for the quick reply, I’m sure I’ll be tinkering with how I’m going to go about designing mine for a while before I build it., but all these videos are great for ideas 👍

Just curious, what happened to the stove you made out of a propane tank? Is this one a better working design?

I was going to use it in an enclosed, insulated trailer. I was afraid of killing my family, so I bought and RV furnace instead. I sold this one to someone with a wall tent. It was a large one and they used this as a secondary stove. He sent me a video of it working, but was of such poor quality I never shared it. Seemed to work fine for him though.

Hey John, question for you. Have you ever thought about building a pellet stove or a conversion kit to fit onto one of your tent stoves to burn pellets?

John, I purchased a Colorado Cylinder Stove. After watching you build one (vid from 5 years ago), I have a question. My stove (and every other one from other companies I looked at) don't have a baffle like you installed. Is there a reason they don't do that? I'm thinking, warping/replacing hassles perhaps? Your input would be appreciated! Thank you!

It cuts down on the room you have available to load up the stove with wood at night.... my guess is that is the reason. My goal was to extract the heat (and to keep the flames from going straight up the flu and overheating it)

Im really late to the party, but I have a question on the baffle as well. I started building a cylinderish stove out of an old air compressor tank. It wont be nearly as nice as the job you completed, but should prove functional. Im going to istall a baffle as well and wanted to know how far from the back wall of the stove does the baffle come forward? I still have the dome shape of the tank in the rear, but cut off the front to be flat for the door, interestingly enough I bought as a new, seconds from cylinder stoves there in Utah! Thanks so much, and again you did an excellent job on yours!

Why don't you use some chemistry and math to estimate your fuel to air mixture?

I wouldn't know where to start. I haven't used advanced math in 20+ years, and I haven't had a chemistry class since high school (about 30 years ago).
