Hate to nitpick but had to stop watching at 6:25 when the documentary blamed an infantry Lt Colonel for Rotterdam's destruction in 1940 failing to mention it was an airstrike that destroyed the city. Hard to believe an infantry officer responsible for a massive airstrike. Love your channel and can't wait for the next video but this one jumped the shark quick.

watching this makes me wonder how different my life may have been as I was born in Paris late December 1962 but more especially my mum as she was born in Paris April 1944.One of my gran's sisters my tante Simone who was also in Paris was involved in the Escape Lines. When the uprising began, she was at that time hiding two american airmen who's plane had been shot down near Lille on return from a bombing raid,in her flat near the Gare de l'Est.How she did it,I don't know but using the chaos that was going on as a cover, she personally got them out of Paris herself, normally like many others would have been passed down the Escape Lines to the Pyrenees and smuggled across the Franco/Spanish border. She managed to get them to the frontline between the Allies after they'd broken out of Normandy and the Germans and then got across it with these two fellas. She could have stayed under american protection in safety but much to the amazement of them she decided to cross back over the lines and return to Paris so they gave her half a dozen Hershey chocolate bars to take back with her.She got back to the capital and because there was little food around and hunger was just starting to creep in among the population, she gave couple of them to my gran so she had something nourishing to feed to my mum who was just a four month old baby. The wrappers were kept and have been passed down and as I'm writing this in December 2022,I'm looking at one of them right now and it has the date 1944 stamped on it

Now that is a wonderful testament to the goodness of people. Thank you for sharing that. Very moving indeed. I'm a plumber (at home sick today) from Philadelphia and of German/ Ukrainian/Austrian/Irish decent who happens to have a gran,(who I call my Oma) -Liselotte whose sister I call my dear tante Nadja. I just felt compelled to share that small similarity. Hope this reply finds you in good health. Thanks again❤

Thank you Raoul Nordling. Read his Memoirs "Sauver Paris". He did so much. He also liberated Drancy Concentration Camp with the help of Annette Monod. And despite the comments it is indeed true that the FFI saved Paris from Von Choltitz alongside the Allies who prevented these V2 to be delivered.

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when de Gaulle decided to pull out of NATO. He wanted all US Military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?" Charles de Gaulle did not respond. You could have heard a pin drop.

This cryptic flick would be vastly better if all the intervie2wed experts spoke English (we have to take the subtitles' word for it- for what they are saying.) Presentations should always be made in the vernacular of the audience. (I woke up and left at 25:00 because this pedantic documentary is unconvincing.)

Pretty good documentary. Tried to paint himself as the historical savior of Paris. But, in reality, he didn't do as much as he claimed. No doubt he was aware he'd have hell to pay after the war if he didn't try and rewrite history. The French folded their tent pretty darn quick and so didn't really receive much of a shellacking like the Russians. The resistance really picked up as Einsenhower got convinced to liberate.

In the French history books today you would have thought by reading them, the resistance won the battle and we were just there to assist. By the way the word French collaborators I don't blv they hardly ever mention, passive resistance, oh kay.

this is so funny to me. A Documentary about a relativly small bombinb raid at the end of the war by the germans and at the End someone explains that this bombing raid is often forgotten, because allied bombing raids killed french civilians in the ten-thousands but we will probably never see a documentary about that at all.

when the victor tells the story, believe little of it. papers can be made up to fit what ever narrative they want. if the city was burn down it did not belong to France anyway, it belong to the suffering French African colonies and Haiti who paid to build it and Haiti is still paying.
