You can really feel the grace in his face, satisfaction / happiness / joy in his expressions. Those you can not find from the faces of bureaucrats who surrenders every thing ( Individuality) (duty) to the politicians. I am enough optimistic that upcoming batches definitely take him as inspiration and help the governments to rule in true democratic way.
You can feel and analyse all those points which are often being talked about for a good civil servant. Calmly talking about all the critical issues, indirectly respecting all the points of view. Thanks to the Union public service commission for choosing him for the post of Indian administrative service officer.
This is a very common practice, whenever a leader takes on the position for the first time, he will engage more people initially. Once he has a basic understanding of the system, he will only engage with the select few. I have seen this over and over again. This should not be considered as callousness, indifference or shortcoming of the leader

My opinion on the points discussed in the interview: 1. The reason there was indecision in the UPA government, and Mr. Manmohan Singh couldn't rule over the ministers maybe because he was never intended to rule over them. The ministers who were put in charge were by the ruling party to share the power between the senior leaders of the party with little to no oversight by the PM. It may have been done so to keep senior leader happy until the party could bring the leader who has born with the birth right to rule over those senior members of the party. 2. The PMO's approval is required for the decision taken by other ministries maybe because the PM understands that the people have put him in charge of the government and feels that it is his responsibility to make sure no minister falls out of line, maybe trying to avoid the mistakes of the government ruled before him. 3. The Demonetisation was executed poorly maybe because they simply couldn't consult with everyone who are qualified enough to guide them before the decision was taken simply because the people guiding the government could very likely be involved with black money themselves and could leak the information even before the decision was taken, hence defeating the sole purpose. Perhaps the abrupt decision to implement it might have been influenced by someone getting the information out, so they announced it before it got leaked. I am entitled to my opinion, so does everyone else. [I highly doubt that anyone would read through this but if you did, then I thank you for your attention. : ) peace.]

The govt could have done the demontization a little later after Digital Payment Mechanism would have gotten much widespread. Then could have just removed the 1000 rs notes slowly over a span of time leaving the 500 notes. Common people & corporates would have used digital transaction gateways for white money. Storing 500 Rs would have attracted the attention of ED, IT & other financial regulatory bodies pretty easily.

The process of 1000 Rs notes converted into 2000 rs notes is called declaration of cash on hand. Once you are compelled to declare cash on hand your black money is declared, and naturally brought into tax account. 2000 rs currency is to reduce the load of paper currency. It was a very good idea, implemented to its maximum possibilities in our so much complex regime. Unlike he said, the effect of demonization is multiple. No money came back... why would it? It was earned in the Indian Economy. People hoarded cash. It's not illegal. Why should people have to declare it? Tax is a voluntary system in the US, I believe it would be the same in India. But once you pay tax, you have become a voluntary participant in their system and now you must play their game and pay the fines or go to jail. Anyway, all these attempts by any government party are for the same group of elite that harbour worldwide controlling interests. India is trying to ramp up "vasudhaiva kutumbakam" just have a look at the meaning of the word and what it means, and what they're trying to achieve with it. And then remember when Aadhar rolled out, which was declared to be illegal and a voluntary gimmick by the supreme court, until the PM's government fought viciously with the Supreme Court to get it accepted by creating new laws in the parliament to give it a form of a valid ID. Supreme Court had initially ruled it is not a valid ID and cannot be made mandatory. But alas, 99% of Indians don't understand law or how to use it. If you look at the new trending government's attempts to create "vasudhaiva kutumbakam" remember that when Aadhar was launched, many people on ration cards were unable to secure their daily meals from the government because they didn't get their Aadhar card. As a result, people died! If you believe "vasudhaiva kutumbakam" that we are all "one family" how could you let even one person die because you wanted them to enroll into Aadhar? All these processes are linked to the world and have a superior controller. India is just a participant in someone's scheme of things.

They don't care whether the policy is actually good for the nation or not and try to mislead people into opposing the policy just for their own gain. Now, the people too are responsible for being so easily mislead and opposing a policy just because their fav. Politician has mislead them. A good example of this would be the new farm bills or the POSCO case in odisha.

This is one my most liked interview videos I have got a view of the governence untill now. Thanks to Anil sir and Brut for this conversation video. I would certainly try to buy and read the book by him. Kudos!
At last someone who is in upper in the position is speaking openly.. ❤❤

Very articulate person.
Excellent One of the best interviews. Mr Anil Sarup Very informative and truthful
More power to you all lovely people out there 🙏✌️👍😎💯🕊️💗
Brilliant interview. We need more of such honest bureaucrats who don't bow down to the pressure from the politicians and have the courage to talk their mind. Although, this appears to be an interview to promote his book, it observations are still valid.
I generally do not have high opinions about IAS officers and it gets further validated after hearing Anil Swarup interview. I am amazed and shocked to hear on the first part of this interview that he felt demonetisation was a good idea as he knew by this the lots of black money a CM whom he knew had made will all be gone. Now can there be a more naive person than Anil Swarup and then he served as secretary to the Government of India in different ministries. I am again amazed why we listen to such foolhardies.
That was an inspiring poem by him at the end. Excellent interview and the questions. Looking forward to reading the book, however I feel this interview might've covered majority of those anecdotes.
Brilliant interview of a great person.
This is one of the best interviews i have seen in recent times. Mehak was fantastic. I liked the line of neural questioning she followed. So was Mr. Anil Swarup. The glimpses of what went on behind the scenes give hints of truth i didn't know. Wish more IAS officers came up for interviews like these.

This story of mayawati which he narrated is what makes me think that why civil servants work under these illiterate ministers ?? No govt will ever ever ever give a upper hand to civil servants which they deserve, the only reason is ego issues.

Here comes people like you who thinks Babus should have more power than elected officials, god bless democracy and illiterates like you, babus are not for decision making that why we elect parliamentarians who make decision for which they came in power, people like you and mostly in India loves Babus and govt in personal lives thats why we are doomed, if removed most babus we will be rich country in less than a decade or 2. They are the biggest clog in the system, and they all sell India in different ways, check this babus children education and where they are studying and who gave the scholarship and you will find out how deep the water is.
Spoke his heart, I also have seen other interviews of him.. while he is critical of the Politicians with speaking his heart out, some of the anti govt brigades only want to make headlines like this.. when did we see any headlines like this for a congress governments..

To be true to your self under such trying circumstances - commendable. 👍
First MOJO, now Brut. This "retired bureaucrat" seems to be part of a toolkit. I hope he doesn't embarrass himself too much. There is still a long way to go for 2024 elections. Just an honest tax-payer here who indirectly has paid for the "speaks his mind" retired bureaucrat's salary and now for his pension.

Indias greatest tragedy today is the lack of spine among people in important positions. A fundamental of a strong democracy. CBI chiefs, ED, RBI, ruling party MPs, CAG, AG, judiciary, IAS officers, long list.

Eye opening facts & brave views .
Good interview. Many times bureaucrats keep quiet, for want of moral courage or sometimes, what is known as anticipatory administration, one tries to guess the mind of the boss and tries to project a view/opinion, in tune with that guess thus genuine, balanced views get suppressed.
