Burden of Bullets - Part 1
Kenya is almost synonymous with extra-judicial killings in Africa with an Amnesty International report indicating that by October 2016, the country had 122 extra-judicial killings recorded, out of the 177 recorded continent-wide. If anything, according to Amnesty, the numbers could be higher were local police figures availed. So, where does that leave us?
Africa Uncensored's Elijah Kanyi has been documenting the stories of families living in slums in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, that have lost their sons, husbands and relatives to the Kenya Police's killer bullet as captured in the first of two episodes of our ongoing #UncensoredMtaani series.
Should every alleged criminal in Nairobi's slums or anywhere else for that matter be gunned down without undergoing the due process of the law including the right to a fair hearing?

I don't judge people because i'm not God.But crime doesn't pay.If you live by the gun,you die by the gun.Rest in peace to the innocent souls.

I think he meant the little boy that was killed by the "stray bullet"
It's sad to loose someone but more painful when robbed after a long day of hustle. There are two sides of the story and everyone from ghetto can tell this.

It's definitely more painful losing a person close to you!
Criminals have no place in our society. I had an encounter with some a few days ago and until you have an encounter, you wont know what it is.

Achana na hawa drunken mothers. Wanainchi wananyanyaswa jasho yao wanapelekewa halafu wanakuja hapa sijui kusema nini. Beste yangu alipigwa risasi mpaka saa hii iko kwa mwili when they were trying to rob him kutoka kwa duka yake. It pains me until now. Ukaona vile anatembea mazee unaweza sema ako na polio. Mimi simu ilienda but i was not injured. Hawa wauliwe tu hakuna dawa. Hata wakishikwa ni jela miaka mbili harafu wanatoka na kuendelea na terror

Preach to those who are arrogant when they describe police in a bad way when their lives are in harms way trying to protect these humans from the criminals
This stories usually have several sides which all have to be addressed. I would like to see the undercover piece on the crimes (rapes, killings, robberies, muggings) the guys committed before they were caught up with.

A common thread here is that none has refuted they were criminals, due process is the elephant in the room

I have felt so sorry for Carol for losing her only child
Crime doesn't pay in any way it will only destroy your life so as youths lets make use of the precious time we have by doing constructive things and avoid drugs because 95% of those who are engaged in crime are drug addicts
We need to kick poverty out of Africa. Noma
Really sad! Oh no

This is a sobber article for the viewer to make his/her judgement on which side to support coz there's no way you going to be neutral. It hurts to loose such young people to the bullet but I believe they aren't killed just like that without been given a chance to reform. Like that man who had been arrested 3 times and each time released is enough reason for the police to take law unto their own hands but that isn't to mean that I support extrajudicial killings.
At least they don't have winter in Kenya like we have in Europe...

True. Winter sucks
So those who say criminals should all die.. I get it if you have suffered under their ruthless hands... But if you can justify them being shot. What about those billions we hear zimeporwa... Those should be nuked my your logic. . The whole system is flawed. Let's accept that, and strive for change all through. .. Easier said than done after all..
The music and background sound effects in this video are sometimes poorly thought out, and occasionally inappropriate and disrespectful. Please do better about thinking what you pick does for the storytelling.
