Police look for trouble

Young copper walks up to car and says "hello" to the occupant. Occupant responds that he doesn't want to talk to the copper. Copper, seeing that no crime is being committed says "My apologies, have a good day" and walks away. End of story. That's how it should be.

How is it a friendly chat, if they're gonna mis-use the the law to punish you for not wanting to engage? That little kid pretending to be a cop just wants to bully people. He had enough of hearing "I don't want to talk to you, please leave me alone", and he could feel his control slipping away.

You need to be driving a vehicle under s164 of the RTA for them to require yo to give them details. The cop is wrong, this does not apply if you are just sitting in a car.

I had a similar situation when I was driving to work in a supermarket bakery, at 4 am someone destroyed and tried to steal money from cash machine. The police were there when I arrived, when I got out they surrounded me and asked where I from, when I answered they considered me a suspect only on that basis. I wish that recod it like You

Ha i feel your pain, except I forgot to take my hunting gear out of the car so spent the night in a cell and dragged threw court for a year until the judge threw it out because they failed to produce any evidence that i had done nothing wrong in the first place and I wasn't doing anything wrong in the first place. They need to teach police that everyone is innocent unless they observe a crime being committed by the person. They should of said hello and have a nice day and went on

That stupid cop needs to be sacked, he had no reason to ask anything of the guy sat in the car, the guy in the car does not have to talk to the police when he has not commited a crime and was well within his right to ask the officers to leave him alone. Both officers esculated a situation because their ego's overtook reasonable thinking, they then tried to use section 1 without just cause, I am shocked and disgusted by there action, the officer then lied even though it was all caught on camera. Both officers should be awarded Muppet Of The Year Awards.

Blatant racial profiling. I would say it makes me angry but truth is, it makes me feel more sad. Dead right Citizen! The Police do have the right to require your ID if you are the driver of a vehicle, BUT when the first 'police officer' first approached the driver he said it was just to have a freindly chat, NOT to get the drivers ID! All the rest of his actions were confabulatory justifications for his objections to the drivers refusal to, 'have a chat'. The Law says that The Police can require drivers ID, it doesn't specify any need for grounds, BUT IS IT REALLY REASONABLE TO REQUIRE ID MERELY UPON THE BASIS OF A REFUSAL TO 'HAVE A FREINDLY CHAT'? OBVIOUSLY NOT! IF THE PC HAD MERELY REQUIRED ID HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ACTING WITHIN THE LAW BUT SINCE HE SAID THAT HE DID SO DUE TO A REFUSAL TO CHAT HE WASN'T! LOL! LOL! LOL! Friendly chat my ass! He shouldn't have started out by talking a load of soft soap and flannel bullshit! What is the possible implcation of the fact that the car was not on a public highway at the time. (Presumably the Police cannot knock on the door of your house and require your ID just because on some occasions you drive a car)! They are trying to hide behind a verbalistic interpretation of The Law in order to justify being intrusive without any reasonable grounds other than that they apparently have nothing else to do!

As your in charge of a motor vehicle they can demand you ID and if you do not give your ID you can be detained to find out your ID

This is what happens when you talk with cops . All he had to do was shut up and shut his door and roll up his windows. But he chose to let the cop get under his skin instead of just ignoring him. If you walked past someone in the street and said Good Morning, and they didn't respond, you wouldn't carry on talking to them, if you were sat on the Tube and asked someone why they were on the Tube and they replied they didn't want to talk, you wouldn't carry on talking.
