This was filmed in 1992 and the sport is BOXING not MMA.
Uh - this movie came out in 1992. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Brian Dennehy haven't looked that young in decades (Dennehy passed away in 2020). Also, it's about underground boxing, not MMA (which was largely unknown at that time).

MMA was in its infancy at the time. I think the first official MMA matches were in the late 1980s only a few years earlier.
I can’t believe I’ve never seen this. Brian Dennehy was a great actor.

He really made me hate him in this movie, I hated him in this even more than First Blood.
High school kids about 35 they must be held back for the last 20 years😂

Brian Dennehy (sp) is one of the few bad guys I still loved to watch. He was great in Rambo First Blood

What a badass guy
The main character's father really let him down. He was a VERY lucky man to have a son like that who would at his own risk rescue him from his stupidity. IF, after all of these events, the father were to continue to rack up gambling debts and I was Tommy Riley I would not help him at all and let fate take its course.

The movie isn't exactly the best. Part of the problem is James Marshall (who plays the lead Tommy). Not the most charismatic actor (outside of playing one of the two defendants in A Few Good Men, not very memorable).
Shit movie and very predictable plot line, avoid it as the fight scenes are obviously faked.
