Among the top ten movies I've seen over the last thirty years. One of those movies, like The Shawshank Redemption, A History of Violence, Mad Max: Fury Road and a precious few others, where its reputation will continue to gradually build as more people come to know it and appreciate its virtues...Very simple, direct, effective, and moving. Dynamite performances from the entire cast...even in brief roles, like Tom Waits' pawn dealer, or Evan Jones as the bike gang leader and Chris Browning's hijacker. A stark, unique, poignant, beautiful fable.

The original Mad Max called for 2021, or there abouts. I'm worse than Max. He went there due to His Wife n Child being massacred. I did more back in the late '80's and early '90's. 39 Confirmed Kills, 75- 100 Probable. I sleep like a Baby.

This movie was straight fire! It is a masterpiece of acting, directing, and film. I am not a fan of cgi normally, but they used just the right amount of film tricks, and small touches of cgi to make the sky look polluted and washed out. As for Denzel, this film must be his tip acting since Glory. I still think Glory was his best acting, but this is a close second. He brings an emotional aspect to this film of a mixture of hope and distaste for the current state of humanity. This movie was thought provoking and entertaining at the same time. I'm not sure to many actors could have pulled this one off, especially with the entirely burned out whole end of the world scenario, its just been beat into the ground in the last twenty years, but this one had such a great storyline , to think it was all over a Bible, one man guarded by angels seeking to restore faith, the other seeking to use it to control people, and everyone knowing it caused the great war that destroyed everything, I mean who could think this story up and make it work like this, pure poetry.

It doesn’t mention Christianity. And it should not be ignored that the villain wants the book because of its history of usefulness in controlling people, nor that after the war that ended civilization the survivors had burned all the Bibles. Maybe the war that ended civilization was over religions based in the Bible.

Love the fact, that he have to use a handcart or a wheelbarrow to transport this Bible (or a really big backpack and some really bad back pain). A real King James Braille Bible is up to 20 separated books with an total mass of 40 Kilogramm / 90 Pounds. Also nothing in the entire movie show us, that he is blind. He shoot a cat, that haven't done a sound at this time. He was shooked after finding the hanging man in the obended house. He see the battery of his iPod is low. He didn't search for the doorknob, he instantly find it. He looks clearly to the person he spoke to and so on. The "he's-blind"-twist came out of nothing. A blind person will focus his ears to a nearby action, not his eyes (as we see in the scene where the elder couple that was killed by the gang for there books). But aside that, and aside the theological agenda (contradicts by the brutality of the main character), it was a solid, not good movie.

According to Google, a Braille Bible occupies a space of approximately 6 cubic feet and would weigh around 70 pounds....... other than this glaring error, the movie is fantastic. But once you know this detail, the magic is gone..........

This was an amazing movie. Thought i don't believe he was blind. There are many instances in this movie that prove he wasnt. All the people he shot for a start. Or was that divine intervention? I think not.

Nope. He was blind. He used echo location. Theres several documented cases of blind people that use echo location like bats. They have an incredible sense of hearing and can see the world in sound vibrations basically. They can get around in real life without seeing eye dogs or the use of a cain.

@@johnnyskied yeah i don't think he echo located seeing those bikers looking down from a high bridge? Never anywhere in the movie was it even hinted that he used 'echo location.'

Eli was almost certainly blinded by the flash of a nuclear blast. He asks Solara's mom, Claudia, if she has been blind her whole life or since The Flash (apparently, a large-scale nuclear attack). If you feel like filling in Eli's backstory using your imagination, he was likely some special forces soldier who became expert with various fighting weapons and techniques during his military training BEFORE he was blinded in the Great War. He then perfected his sightless fighting skills while surviving his long perilous journey through the hijacker-filled wastelands. As for divine intervention, I would think that any person who committed the entire King James Bible to memory during a decades-long pilgrimage through some of the most hostile territory while battling the constant scourges of hunger, thirst, fatigue, disease, loneliness and vicious hijackers is likely someone who is drawing inspiration from a so-called "higher power"...I try not to confuse myself with complex things I cannot know with certainty, so I tend to keep things simple: I dunno about "divine intervention" but dude sure looks like someone on a mission from god.

@@marklipson there's an interesting quote from Einstein about nuclear war. Not verbatim but basically....I don't know exactly which weapons will be used in WW3 but I can tell you what will be used in WW4; Sticks and stones. Modern humans are over 150,000 years old. How many times have we gained and lost knowledge over that time? During the ice age the water levels were hundreds of feet lower. Civilizations always build by water. Who knows how many advanced Civilizations were wiped out in an instant by cataclysmic floods, volcanoes and impact events.
