BULK .22LR SERIES - FEDERAL CHAMPION 36 gn CHP, Lilja CZ457 and Tikka T1X
Спорт
In todays video I shoot 2 types of Federal Champion, the 36 grain CHP and the 40 grain LRN. Todays rifles are the Custom CZ457 Lilja Barreled rifle and the Tikka T1X Factory Action PDC Custom Chassis rifle just like the last 2 videos in the series. How does this ammunition stack up to the AutoMatch and the Blazer? Watch and find out!

🇦🇺😎👍Federal champion $69.90/525 or $649/5250 at a cheap place sth east Queensland Australia….. I thought that ammunition was bad value. Great video
Great vid Don. the only federal my 457 likes is the gold medal target! about on par with tac22. looking forward to the next one, Cheers
I’m liking the series!

I mentioned on another video that this stuff has been trash in all my rifles. I'm actually surprised by how well your CZ shot it. Glad you are doing this. Maybe Federal will see this and up their rimfire game.

Thanks again for a comprehensive test. I appreciate your going to the extra time, effort, and expense to provide meaningful sample sizes (unlike so many other channels) under valid test conditions (unlike so many other channels 😉).

Please try the Aguila Super Extra bulk pack 40 gr. and 38 gr. HV copper plated. I've had better luck with this stuff than Federal AutoMatch. I like your format a lot! Thanks!
Thanks
Don I don't want to be so negative it not your videos I love your videos.what tic's me off is the USA can't make good 22 ammo. You have to get English or German ammo if you want good quality ammunition, and to me that is sad 🤔😟😟😟

Absolutely my point, and what would happen if shit goes bad and that ammunition is not available to us anymore. We’re stuck with this 💩! That thought is absolutely unacceptable to me, 😂

Cheap ammo is easy to come by in Cornwall UK but the good stuff is still hard to come buy. 😢
This confirms my experience with Federal bulk, although I have had better luck with automatch. My rifles are not as high dollar as yours.

Most rifles no matter what you paid for them can shoot good if you use a good ammunition. Actually, that’s what makes all the difference in my rifles. Those fantastic groups I shoot are a product of a decent quality barrel and a good ammunition. It makes all the difference.
Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to be a kid nowadays. The cheap stuff shot better than that with open sights
Thanks Don for this series. It answers a lot of questions. Mainly how cheap is “cheap” ammo. Again thanks!

Yeah, you used to be able to get good ammunition for 10c per round. This crap used to be like .05
I shoot a lot of .22 rf benchrest 25yd in the UK and one of the most popular brands is RWS R50 but its quite expensive. We also use Lapau Centre X, but that's gone from £163.00 a thousand to £230.00 a thousand, don't know how much RF ammo is in the US.

@@kindwarf the price is getting ridiculous, and very hard to find when you want it. Especially the good stuff like your talking about. But, that’s the stuff you need if you want anything remotely consistent. If you just want to pull a trigger and don’t care if you hit what you’re aiming at, buy American made .22.
Best bulk I have ever found has been federal automach. Which is kinda odd cause everything else federal STINKS.

That’s kinda a theme with .22lr, no matter who makes it. Lot to lot there’s a difference. Some manufacturers have larger differences than others. Seems to follow the price.
That new Eley super duper long range seems to shoot bout like some federal auto match lol kinda seems like Eley flopped on that one… can’t wait for RWS to come back in stock

I seen that! I almost bought 2 bricks of it but figured someone else could test it. I did the same with the Norma Long range stuff. I figured if it was good then I’d buy some. Lol
As you will appreciate when you are shooting at a 2mm dot at 25 yds you need consistency, specialy if its windy.
Fair play for spend your own money on crap ammo. On a plus side we don't have any 22 ammo that cheap in the uk Cheapest stuff i can think of is rem golden bullet maybe one to add to the mix

I just bought a fresh box of it today for the next video.
And that's the reason most folks think .22's aren't accurate!😮
I know the feeling about that ammo i tried the 40 gr in my tikka bone stock rifle 1245 fps average,32 es,11.92 sd
Have you seen any of the squeeze bore barrels? I think VSeven makes one that sizes down to .20 and supposedly increases power and range
Don I bought some Browning Pro Hunt ammo it has a real weird crimp in the casing at the base of the bullet and I was getting 4" to 6" groups out of it at 50 yards surprisingly enough the Blaser junk shot real well.

I think I have some of that Browning here. Lol. I think the Blazer wasn’t horrible, it’s at #2 in the series so far.
Really digging this cheap ammo stuff. Very interesting to see how much of a difference ammo actually makes. Are you planning on running any CVI SV?
Curious if cleaning the ammo with alcohol to remove the cheap lubricity and then spray them with Hornady One-Shot for a dry lube would narrow the group. You were talking about grime in you mags perhaps that is the culprit.
👍👍
I had similar results with the Federal Gold Medal ammo. It shot like bulk ammo. I stay away from Federal ammo.

It’s a shame, the gold metal match used to be a very good ammunition. It was used in the Olympics. Lol, not anymore.
Don you seemed to mention by Eley Contact from the Eley website but while I can find data on it I can't find a link to buy it there. Can you help me out there? I'm using the Federal 49 gr Range Pack for my lever guns and pistols now.
I think the difference in bulk ammo shows up more in them high end barrels more so than regular spotter barrels with sporter cut chambers?
@RimfireSS
17 күн бұрын
@@rayweir9903 the match (Bentz) chambers will always shoot better that a sporter in my experience. But honestly this series is the first time I’ve been able to bring myself to put bulk ammo through any of the rifles I depend on for precision. Lol so this is all new to me as well.
Head spacing on the tika? Or maybe difference in custom barrel to factory?
I think I paid $65 for the 800 round range pack. It patterns like bird shot - 3 inches in my Winchester. It will just be plinking ammo along with my other bulk crap. My Savage B22 loves Contact best of the Eley I've shot. I try to order several boxes of it when I can find it.

@@arnoldmoos1791 I have a Mark II and Ruger 10/22 on order so with 800 rounds I have plenty to test with. Like most bulk it's still great for shooting steel and targets, just hasn't helped in precision.

I know of no bulk ammo that shoots well. And to be truthful I know of no US .22lr ammo that shoots well. The main problem with US .22lr ammo is quality control. Try stripping down a box of Federal and weighing the bullet and powder load, you will be shocked.
