Bulbmin are walking husks with the only thing out of the parasite's control is their hunger and they don't even get to control THAT.

Fun fact: according to the pikmin 4 piklopida rock pikmin are also just a thing infected by the parasite pikmin. They just infected rocks instead of bulborbs.

I think the glow pikmin are the paricite pikmin that caused ice pikmin,bulbmin and rock pikmin.

The definition of a parasite is that they need a host to survive. The 'parastic Pikmin', if we could see it, would just look like a central nervous system with a leaf on top, and it wouldn't be able to do anything on its own. If they made a return, it might be interesting to see other pikmin-infested versions of enemies, though. Or at least let the babies be able to grow into adults - I'm sure they could do something interesting with that concept.

@heckssoda588 rock pikmin could just be done by the seed of the parasitic pikmin rooting into a rock, ice is a bit tougher to work with though (i guess MAYBE the seeds gather water to them that they freeze? idk)

@@Spacecoreinspace ice pikmin are mostly found in caves and the ice onion is in a refrigerator if I remember correctly so it could be possible that the seeds naturally land on ice in these naturally cold environments. The hard part is how they can maintain the water in a solid state

I think an interesting way to bring them back would be to have the glow pikmin able to infect bulborbs (allow day travel), but after a set period of time those bulborbs grow up and become hostile like how the big ones are in 2, clues being less responsive over time and size/strength increase. Could produce an interesting risk/reward mechanic. Get stronger pikmin at the cost of them turning on you after a while.

From what I've heard, Nintendo was experimenting with Bulbmin, which included expanding what could be parasitized and how they could affact gameplay, but things got too complicated, and they eventually settled on splitting the Bulbmin in two, having Oatchi be the Grub-Dog form half, and Glow Pikmin being the elemental resistance and no-daylight half.

I feel like the main reason Bulbmin havent appeared after Pikmin 2 is because they dont fit too much with the rest of pikmin types, Glow Pikmin, while being said that they might not even be pikmin, somewhat resemble one, and as funny as Bulbmin are, they look nothing like the rest

The thing is, Glow Pikmin are just mechanically more sound than Bulbmin due to the fact that you can spawn them in any cave, so the devs don't have to try and predict which caves the player will likely need Bulbmin for later on. That said, I'm still forever interested in the Bulbmin build of 4, before Oatchi got turned into a space doggo.

The worst thing pikmin 4 did was definitely the replacement of the munge dweevil

I've had an idea for a while that Bulbmin could have a unique immunity, that they can't be eaten by other bulborbs. They lose their elemental immunity from 2, but gain an immunity to the most common enemy type

I think in terms of player usable Pikmin they should mostly stick with glow pikmin going forward, but if they ever wanted to do another boss in the vein of scornet maestro a creature commanding an army of bulmin would be an interesting way of handling it.

I do like how the Engulfed Castle at the very least references Bulbmin in Sublevel 2. Some Albino Bulborbs follow a Bulborb, so its a neat call back, which is maybe better than nothing?

As others have said, I’d at least like them to return in a more balanced and in a more available way instead of just their cave mechanic. Maybe focus on how they’re technically enemies and wouldn’t draw attention from other creatures or give them their elemental immunity but nerf their damage into the floor

Fun Fact When Purples and Whites take things back to the onion, it isn't random, it's whatever type has the least numbers, even Purples stick out for the little guys

In pikmin 4, yes, but not in pikmin 2. Try it yourself by throwing a purple pikmin, then whisteling it, then throwing it again.

Glow pikmin are awesome and are definately the replacement for bulbmin in pikmin 4's caves. It still sucks fron your greens to disapear after sprouting them from seeds.

I enjoy this one theory about the Glow Pikmin, which is the idea that they could be the parasites that infect the bulborbs to turn them into bulbmin. It would make sense with how they operate the exact same way.

Bulbmin are one of my favorite pikmin. I used to play the multiplayer levels over and over that had them just to use them because I didn't know that were in the main game.

A lot of people think that Glowmin replaced Bulbmin and they're not necessary any longer. I don't agree, since both of them are so limited neither violates the territory of the other, but it still made me wonder what differences could be made if they were brought back... I think serving as a weaker mini oatchi could be cool. You don't throw them, they run at enemies. Their charge would be a single weak impact. They're a little larger, about the size of a bulborb larva. They can hop up ledges rather than run in place, stuck. They'd lose their immunity, but now have a health bar making them meat shields. They could also take a design inspiration from the Leaflings, with a back-end covered in hairs.

I have to say, your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Keep up the excellent work!

I used to always kinda think Bulbmin were overrated. But just recently I got to the Frontier Cavern in Pikmin 2 and finally encountered them for the first time and oh my god I love them. I would die for the bulbmin. Burry me in a bulbmin casket when I die. My only complaint now is that I think they should have designed Oachi and Moss after the Bulbmin, it would’ve been a fun homage.

the bearmin concept art from pikmin 3 got me thinking. y'know how in pikmin 1 olimar's family's dog is show to be a dog-bulborb thing? what if the dogs in pikmin 4 were a bulbear equivalent breed of that species. people like those space dogs but frankly i think this would have been much cooler

i think the parasites are the same as what turns captains into leaflings, similar to the leaflings they are the only pikmin species to display any sort of leadership and we see the parasite does not entirely remove the species instincts, matching the leaflings not thinking straight but still being relatively human

i think the thing with bulbmin is that they existed to give the player more pikmin in caves, so they don't softlock or give up cause they lost a blue pikmin or something. but cause they resist all elements to do that, they have to stay in caves otherwise they'd outclass the rest of the cast. So outside of pikmin 2 like caves, they don't really have a use I guess.

Play their cards right, and I could see them not outclassing everyone. For example: Move like purples in water, still gives blues an advantage. Flinch at electricity but not die, yellows would still dominate. Reds naturally have a better damage multiplier so no real changes there. Jack of all trades but master of none could give an interesting dynamic. Go in with a force that can always fight at full strength or have specialized forces to handle any situation but often have to split to do so.
