I met Doug at a random gas station in Santa Clara California... We were standing in line and I knew it was him.... I was like "Doug?" And he was like "yes?" Hahahah he was just as chill and kind as you can imagine. He let me on the van to say hi to the rest of the guys as I proceeded to fan boy like crazy.... I'm not usually star struck.... But for Doug. I had to thank him for all the music he has made to soundtrack my younger years and good vibes today...... Thank you again Doug!!!!!

@@ants_in_my_eyes_Wilson yeah, he comes off as standoffish and annoyed, but everyone says he's nice. He sure was all business during the show, lol. He went crazy on the guitar for like 2 minutes straight in the middle of "Goin Against Your Mind", it was hype as hell.

@@mikeb6085 Oh, definitely. I think he's shy. Also. That's my favorite song of theirs. He really goes fucking hard! His personality when you talk to him certainly doesn't match his stage presence. But his stage presence can certainly fucking shredd lol
The excitement over Rush is contagious. Adorable.
I always have a difficult time watching these episodes because almost always the artists turn me on to music that's so great that I have to frequently pause the episode so that I can search for and listen to their picks in full. So a 12 minute video, like this one, ends up taking over an hour to get through!* *This is not a complaint, by the way.

Wouldnt call it underrated, its pretty heavily critically acclaimed. It DOES however deserve much more attention, as it (the band itself too) is not quite as popular as it should be
I'll never forget reading an interview with Doug, about 20 years ago: What do you listen to? "Old soul and reggae records." And Prism Bitch is great.
Doug, your music was featured in some very legendary skateboarding videos over the past few decades. That's how I "discovered" you... When I bought Keep it like a secret, I was instantly in love. Sooo many great albums filled my childhood.

Tender Buttons is so so good. I was fortunate to see them live a year before Trish Passed. They were amazing, it was like a wall of sound, like really loud but in a perfect way. Trish had incredible charisma she basically just stood there and danced a little but you couldn't take your eyes off her. And the rest of the band played great.
Shoutout to Boise Idaho, probably the only recognizable band to come out of my home town
There's a great documentary about Fanny called "Fanny: The Right to Rock" that came out just a couple years ago.
The way Doug feels about Rocksteady, I feel about Built to Spill! ❤️🎸
I'm Brazilian and very ashamed that I had never heard of Oruá (as was the case with most of the picks). that Scientist album is on my wishlist, this must be one of the most awesome episodes I've ever seen, I'm flabbergasted

A lovely collection from a unique band and its many incarnations.
I like bass player because in live show she’s all the time smiling and singing. Every time she’s having fun.
I saw Prism Bitch play their first show at a small house venue in ABQ and have been a follower ever since. I hit it off with Teresa especially hard when we discovered our mutual appreciation of Rush. So happy to see her out there kicking ass and representing Albuquerque.
Doug is lookin more fit he's sorta got some guns on him....soo many people don't know Built to Spill and every song is good..but I'm 44 so..love the diversity and I hope vinyl & even cd's continue to be appreciated 👍

Second third fourth and fifth for Orua that record rips and they are incredible live.
I've wanted that King Tubby record for a while now.
I've only seen them play once, but I sleep on them a lot. I'm digging a lot of the drummer's picks.
i think this is the what's in my bag where i kept accidentally walking into their shot. it was so awkward i had to leave the store lol

Awesome love built to spill !
Prism Bitch was insanely good live. Got to see them in 2022 in Charlotte. Thank you, Doug for introducing me to them. Fucking love you guys. Also, just recently got to see you again in Charlotte at the The Underground. I hope that you guys had a decent time even though nobody would fucking dance. Couldn't help but imagine how god damn depressing it must be, to travel the country and go to places like Charlotte, where people insist on standing there like zombies. Like. If people want to be awkward and pretend like they aren't even there, it would be much more considerate to make space for people who actually do want to dance? And not scowl at the people who are trying to have a good time. Just a thought. Please keep coming back. I will see you every time.

I think built to spill is my favorite band of all time - that being said - what's in my bag was done beat by gwar. Hands down. They weren't trying to show off or impress. Seems like that's impossible to do. It's more of the format that feels like a job interview I think.

I thought I heard some Rush in their work. Rush rules.
Even though it's not dub/reggae, but I think they would have enjoyed that Hailu Mergia record that was to the right of them in the stacks.
