"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

Congrats on finding such awesome success on your channel in such a short amount of time! I love what you do, and how you do it. I've been rewatching *literally everything* on the channel over the last week or so, so if your view count has been rocketing- You're welcome. ;) The building ASMR playlist is golden. But that being said, maybe one of my favorite series is about the little circle hut (Muffin Fort), because it's great how you sit and kind of talk about how you met people, and why you're doing this. Maybe you should make little 'mini cuts' of some of the more intimate chat moments, because it's just nice to hear more about why you do all of this and what it means to you and the people directly around you. Also, I love you, your wife, and your kid! You have such great chemistry on camera it's awesome. Be well, be safe, and good luck to the future. We'll be watching. Edit: What is even more awesome, is that I am not a carpenter, architect, woodsman, outdoorsman- etc- Yet I just love your channel and your flow. As a kid I wanted more than anything to build tree houses for a living, and to become a legit architect, but being hands on and crafty ended up not being my path, at all. So your channel almost gives me a sense of nostalgia to being a kid in the forest building all kinds of make shift forts and exploring the wilds of the trees. OH! Maybe some bloopers would be great, too. You're the real life Red Green, and I am here for it. Thanks again!

We all want to build a hot tub. Your heat exchanger design is very similar to most wood barrel designs. The exchange pipes have a somewhat limited amount of flow so it does take a long time to heat your tub. If your volume is roughly the same or less than a 6’ diameter tub 4’ tall then it should work great. Just have to start a fire well ahead of use. Exciting stuff Kevin. I’m getting all motivated to start my hot tub now.

Boy, watching your friends operate that industrial break press reminded me of my short time spent in the sheet metal fabrication industry. The plant I worked at has been around since the late 1930's and been owned and operated by a couple different companies and is huge. It began as a plant that made commercial refrigeration units and freezers for meat processors, restaurants and grocery stores. My moms father, uncle and grandfather worked there during the second world war. In fact my great grandfather was killed in a boiler explosion in that plant. In the early 1960's my father went to work for the same company until it relocated to a newer facility in the mid 70's. The original owners sold it to another firm that made shelving fixtures for retail stores, that company operated the plant up till the early 2000's. About 1991 my brother-in-law went to work as a die maker for the shelving company and talked me into applying for a machine operator's job there. I did a was soon working in the same place that a significant portion of the male members of my family had worked. Before my first night on the job my father stressed to me the importance of following all the safety procedures while working with such powerful equipment and the proceeded to relate to me one incident where an operator got lazy and didn't follow the rules and mashed all 8 of his fingers off when the sheet of steel he was bending slipped and his fingers ended up between the dies as they closed. Needless to say that stuck in my head as I walked out on the production floor my first night. Funny enough, one of my supervisors worked with my dad years before. I never did feel comfortable working there on the same machines that had been there for over 50 years. I lasted 3 weeks before I found a nice job working in a grocery where no employee ever mamed themselves.

This thing is beautifully designed. It's a real pain to design something that can be bent into shape with tight tolerances, these people probably got years of experience and it shows... much more professional than slotted screw holes and 90deg bends that I would draw. So just a tip: Send the manufacturer the 3D files of the already bent parts, and let them flatten the individual parts into sheets, pay extra if needed cause it is worth it.

You have a ready water supply, there is a utube channel thebossoftheswamp where Jim has a cabin and a compound in rural New Hampshire where they get water from a well dug in the 1700's about a hundred yards from the cabin. They haul it in buckets back to the cabin and to the greenhouse and for a washing machine, that would be quite a few trips to fill a hot tub.

I'm so jealous of those press brakes, especially the big one. I have a manual sheet metal brake I could have done the fire box on but being able to make those long bends would be awesome! Are you going to try and move water around in the hot tub itself? I think that if it isn't necessary it would be a good idea. I mean the yeah the heat is gonna cause some movement itself in the water but it's still gonna be noticeably hotter the closer you get to the fire box. Maybe even uncomfortably so? I don't know we'll see I guess lol. On the other hand if you can't exchange enough heat with the fire box for some reason you can just add more and/or bigger pipes 👍

The Beachcombers followed the life of Nick Adonidas (Bruno Gerussi), a Greek-Canadian log salvager in British Columbia who earned a living travelling the coastline northwest of Vancouver with his partner Jesse Jim (Pat John) aboard their logging tug Persephone tracking down logs that broke away from barges and logging..NICE!

When I saw those new sheets of precision cut stainless all I could think about is how Kevin is regretting not picking up something from a teardown 13 years ago haha. The ingenuity and resourcefulness Kevin always shows is amazing but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and open your wallet.

Actually Kevin Tig welding is GTAW Process Gas Tungsten Arc WELDING by definition in welding schools they use this term over tig because it's not technically the correct process like mig welding is GMAW PROCESS GAS METALLIC ARC WELDING just wanted to clarify that for you. Look it up on Welding Principles and Practicing. Or any Metallurgical books.
