Whilst I agree with the sentiment, you got the sequence wrong. An artist works with his hands and heart only. A craftsman works with his hands heart and brain. Craftsman trumps a mere artist any day.

When drilling wires through broken bone in order to hold it temporarily together, that same technique of putting your finger where the wire(drill) should go makes it easy to hit the mark. Nice! Always a privilege to be in the shop with you. Thanks Dave.

Found his channel yesterday... been binge watching every since! Lol Talk about Lost Art forms... sure hope he is using apprentices, sharing his skills!

Would you please indulge some of us that love your craftsmanship with a loong regular speed video? Don't assume all of us get bored with a long detailed video. Does anyone else agree?

I am unreasonably envious of his ability to drill a through-hole from the opposite side of a work piece BY HAND and have it come out precisely matching the hole on the other side. Every time! Even when there's no starter hole to match up with! The man is a walking drill-press. That is pure skill that can not be faked.

Whenever I am getting ready to start a woodworking project, I watch about 30 minutes of Dave. His patience, style, and technique remind me to do the same when I am working. He never seems hurried and is always aware of the next step; so following him I might not make some grievous error in my hobby. Thanks Dave. I should have stopped in Joliet on my way to Red Lodge four years ago.

Every time I watch you I just think about those Pioneer smiths that made these wagons out of necessity and the hard work involved ! Thank you once again for sharing that with us !! Your editing always makes things as clear as a bright sunny day. I now know why I didn't get an answer at the shop when I called earlier this afternoon. I di get in touch with Mark, and my search is over. Thank you for that help.

Again you teach so wonderfully. Speeding it up made the work flow come together without being boring. It does however, mask the concentration and attention to detail and hours you put into the work. Not many words are needed, the actual work is the teacher.

Closing in on 50,000 good for you, you deserve every single one and more. Thank you ECS the work you do is so well done. I know you can say there a mistakes that happen that only you can see but, every builder has them it does not take away any of the strength. Time goes bye so fast when watching your video's it is over so soon.

That was the fastest 25 minutes I have seen. I could watch you work for hours. Great job and I can't wait to see the finished wagon.

this is fascinating your a real craftsman. you need to devote a video telling us how you developed these skills. did you design and build the tooling you use? did you apprentice as a wheelwright ? i think the story of engels coach shop is one worth telling.

Watching you fight that bolt reminded me of me when I had to drill 7/8s bolt holes through 10 inch wood collumns with steel flanges on either side.Some of them were just like the one you had trouble with.Thanks for letting us in.

That was the fastest twenty-five and enjoyable twenty-five minutes I have ever spent. You sir can steal them whenever you want. Craftsmanship such as yours can, has to be seen to appreciate it. Thank you for allowing me (us) to follow you on this journey. Till next time! Thanks.

Just so you know.....I would have watched the three hours....we all have speed controls....and I like the careful way you work....it has often helped me when I am in the shop....forces me to be more thoughtful and organized in a multistep, multimaterial project....and your use of a small square to "square up" a drill bit is brilliant, obvious and had me smacking my forehead wondering why all these years I never thought of it.....and you made me smile....you use your table saw as a work table.....and I thought I was the only one!

You are much welcome to my time, and I thank you for yours. I'll never build a wagon, but there are things to learn by watching.

I really enjoy watching your videos. Not to much talking and just enough fast forward and editing so we don't get bored. Pleas don't change the format of your shows. I used to watch a guy do forging which was very fun and interesting until he started talking too much and fast forwarding super fast through the forging process. Oh, and you cant steal our time. You buy our time with great videos.

Every darn episode has me marvelling at the amount of work involved and- the skill sets required to make each component of this rather large borax water wagon. I should point out that I am a carpenter working in Maintenance at a large private school in Melbourne Australia and my skills also include cabinet making and welding. I have yet to develop my skills in blacksmithing which I have a family history in.

Another great video displaying your unbelievable skill and talent. Thanks for taking the time to video and share the process of building the water wagon.

Watchin you work reminds me of an old saying....”Poetry in Motion”.... I think that says it all.

I love watching these videos to see the things I could actually do myself. In this one for example it was using the sandpaper and lighting the blowtorch.

As usual I enjoyed your video. I was especially impressed at the end of the video where you were reinforcing the King pin. When you drilled horizontally through the say 5 inches of wood to meet up with the pre-drilled holes in the steel, and got them perfectly aligned. 4 out of 4 holes aligned great! Not many could do that using hand drill free handed. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. Always a pleasure to watch your skill. To drill straight through 4" of wood and come out exactly on target at the other side, fantastic. I know some who couldn't do that even with a pillar drill!

Oh My Goodness I knew building wagons wasn't easy but I had no Idea what was involved . I have watched so many of your videos and am fascinated the art and skill involved is mind boggling. I have learned so much from you and want to thank you for sharing your skills and craft with everyone it is awesome how you make and repair all the old wagons and make new ones with the skill and craftsmanship of old using the same nails, bolts and crafting the iron work the way it was done of old , I wish when I was younger to have learned this craft . I will be watching more Thank You

always a pleasure watching you work. Thank you for taking the time to allow us into your world of wagons. Fascinating trade I never knew existed on any real level. The mix of old tools and technology with new tools and technology is fascinating to watch. I have no interest in watching someone using old tools and technology for the sake of reliving the past. To me its about the job, not the tools. If the old time craftsmen had a router they would use it in a heartbeat. They used the best they could get for the times. Im not discounting the high degree of skills they had with what they had to work with. They considered themselves modern at the time.

Amazing multi-faceted videos...woodworking, blacksmithing,mathematics,welding, design and the list just keeps going and going! There are elements in your videos that speak peace and contentment and hope to a person's soul. Thank you for all you do brother.
