Aww you missed your chance to install an IPS screen into your 1000. It makes a world of difference, especially since the 1000 screen had so much blurring.

I did with my psp 1004 with the ips screen from ali express and its a big upgrade. The best is no more ghosting

"Ultimate"... Which is just a Clear Case. Also you broke the UMD-Drive and the Audio. So it's kinda worse than before.

After replacing my old 1000 shell with an aftermarket one, I got the analog drifting so bad. I fixed it by placing a little strip of foam between the shell and the stick housing, so that it was firmly pushed to the motherboard. No drift after that, I'm so happy!

Thanks for showing the joystick fix. That tiny piece of rubber is what's missing on my project one. Nice build.

Came to the comments section to write the same thing. After all the effort to buy wear glove, by new tools, the replacement bits online then strip the parts to install into a clear case all while filming the process too 🤦‍♂️

I love the better improvements you made and awesome collection of Sony consoles! Finding good rebuildable products are harder to find and I think I will just epoxy the original and make my psp custom 😅

I didn't know that it's common to have mismatch. I bought a PSP 1000 for $8 at a swapmeet 6 years ago. All I had to do was to replace the battery and the broken audio jack with a new audio/wifi/memory stick board and I couldn't understand why I had to put a plug to get the sound out from the speakers. This explains it!

Mine just came in yesterday. It's awesome

I have 5 psp consoles all working fine. I recommend buying one, there are still tons out there that still work fine!

awesome video :) i just recently bought a psp 1000 model my self i need to do some repairs on it. your video gave me some ideas :p i've always wanted to actually get a psp especially the 1000 models for a collector piece . right now the psvitas is a lil expensive so will wait abit longer till i can afford one lol

I recently modded a GBA with the full package, it was easy compared to this. I've been wanting to mod my PSP 1000 but man, this is a lot of parts, it's going to take a few views of this video before I'm confident enough to do a shell swap, I can't believe how many layers there are in this little thing. Now I want to see if the thinner PSPs are easier or harder to take apart.

Do it. In my entire life I only reshelled an game boy color, qnd yesterday I was able to reshell an new 3ds xl just from looking at a KZread video. Trust me

still can't believe such small thing can handle great games

eBay now has PSP’s 1000-3000s that are in way better shape that come with extras such as a new battery 64gig sd and chargers for around $100. Just picked one up myself and I was honestly surprised at how good it worked and felt

I still my PSP from 2013 and been playing it for emulators and ps1 games

cool build man. im more of the flea market guy who low balls for psp that are missing battery and cover. ive gotten some for a dollar. they all work expect can read disc. but i just play roms on it. however i have never seen a ps vita at the flea market execpt once which i bought for 60 bucks it was the oled. its such a great device and so is the 3ds.

Just got my new psp 1001 used for 30 dollars it's in rough shape but does work

bought one today for $35 all working great beast

I have only ever seen one swollen battery my whole entire life. It was from a Walmart Onn tablet and it was so swollen it actually pushed itself out of the hardware. I was actually scared it was going to explode lmfao

Where did you buy the clear case kit? For years I've been dreaming of changing the housing on my old psp that I bought seconds hand, and though in good conditions to play, the housing was all messed up. The thing is that, I've heard countless times that replacement housings tend to be trash, but you apparently didn't have much trouble with it. So that gives me hopes. I know one can play psp games on smartphone emulators (I've even done so), bit having a clear psp is like a dream of mine. A nostalgia project if you will, hahaha. So I've be glad of you point me in the direction to where I can get a replacement housing for my old psp 1000

@@jayb937 Thanks! I actually found one in Amazon. Suddenly a company started to sell them, and I bought a clear one the moment I saw them. The shell needed a little bit of trimming here and there but now it look so awesome.

If you break a hinge that is holding down one of the strips like the one at 11:49, can you just put down kapton tape to hold it down or does it require the down pressure from the hinge to make full contact? If so, how would you repair that?

That happened to me once on a 3ds what i did was set the cable into place and then mounted alot of layers of tape until it made solid connection. The proper way to replace it would be with a hot air station like how he had in the video to remove and reinstall once you find the replacement part.

This is a great documentation on the internals of the PSP, however, the PS Vita can't emulate certain PSP games, including pretty big titles like THUG Remix, and I'm not sure most people have experienced the same bad luck you have here

PSP is not emulated on the vita. It runs natively. Same for PS1 games. Putting CFW on it would allow you to go over the limitations imposed by Sony and play THUG Remix on it with 0 issues

@@naifmehanna6548 You are correct in that it runs natively, that's my mistake. However, there is a compatibility list that you can literally google, I can't link it because this is a youtube comment and it'll get deleted, but there are plenty of psp games that the ps vita can't play.

Did you find a replacement for the conductive rubber of the joystick or was that the original you had? If you did buy one can you link me please i need a replacement since mine has a slit and it gets erratic at times

@carlosroberto6085 I forgot what happened afterwards I went on a hunt and tried a different one it was clear with some black lines in the middle and that ended up working out great all the other ones I saw were for the 2000 because one time I ordered some and it didn't fit but the new ones I got work excellent no more drifting. Since then I only used it a few minutes to test and haven't touched it again maybe one day I'll go back to playing psp.

You wouldn't recommend the console because you failed to fix one? I don't understand that logic the psp console especially 2000 and 3000 models are really well made and durable, of course some will have issues after 17 years but I don't think its any worse than other retro consoles I think its still worth buying one just be careful where you get it and if possible make sure its in working order and you'll be 👍 its also cheaper than a vita.

I got my PSP shells from China on eBay, they aren't great but there weren't a lot of choices that I could find. The DS case i got was very high quality however. I also got that one on eBay. If anyone knows a good source of custom cases other than eBay i'm open to it.

There was one china distributor that sold OEM black case it was purely 1 to 1 but i cant remember who it was from it was a little more pricey than the other variants of sellers but it was well worth it. All logos in place even the ring looked amazing. Sometimes they blur it out in the pictures for copyright reasons but its legit!

It wasn't the analogue stick was broke meaning he couldn't play many games

I have the 1000 and a 3001 metal gear peace walker green that the UMD switch is very loose from mother board and won't read discs. When I press the switch, nothing happens.

The audio issue is because you swapped the mother board. I had this issue with my 1000 psp, the memory card board is not 100 compatible with the new mother board. Order a corresponding memory card board and the sound issue will be fixed.

This IS why i hâte dismount a PSP ! What a nightmare😂 every think IS so fragile this IS insane

More. I need more. Give us a clear 3ds. Pls.

fortunately im more electronic savvy.. i'm adding an IPS screen.. switching the button layout as my gold PSP is from Japan and i dont like the circle button as input.. so modding it to be the X button.. also i will be removing the UMD drive and adding a larger battery.. no need for the UMD drive as all my games will be on memory card.. waiting on parts.. but will make a vid when it's done.. sucks that you were not able to get it back to 100% i heard the aftermarket cases were pretty bad.. didnt fit right or didnt close properly.. was that the situation for you?

Why didnt you intsall ips screen? I mean psp-1000 is the only model after all that supports custom ips screens jut like gba. I thought you'd be really interested to do that

you did manage to rip an entire psp yet i dint event minding cleaning the screen, and i dint even get why "ultimate" is in the tittle...

Just as a note, the 3600mAh batteries are mostly just 600mAh. They are fake so its best to rebuild them with a bigger battery.

Could've wicked off the solder points and cleaned up. Maybe next time

Always room for improvement, I am not a professional, still very much learning.

There is PS's out there that can be bought cheap. I recently bought one for 27.50. Fully working. 1001. The bad...front case scratched up and the LCD has some bad pixels. Not sure what they did it it. The thumbstick was missing the top. I have ordered a new front case and a new LCD. Too bad you had the issues you did with yours.

I believe the wireless wifi was discontinued right?

No it will not, they are very different physically.

Just to be clear the reason he said to buy a ps vita slim instead of a psp is because you can actually mod a ps vita to have all the functionalities of a psp. The ps vita actually has a psp inside of it but inaccessible without modding. It's very similar to how the original launch version of the ps3 had the ps2 inside of it. Later generations of the ps3 did not come with this hardware so the only way to play physical ps2 games was to have an original launch version of the ps3.
