    So, not looking to battle anyone, but what's the difference between drawing the design and finalising the engineering? I'm guessing both cars had a team involved to engineer post design, some team members likely to be common to both cars, both of which were built within the company ethos of that time?

  • @claytonspeedcars

    @claytonspeedcars

    3 ай бұрын

    They may well have shared teams, but I had head that internal politics between marks sometimes got in the way. Having cut out the front chassis rails I'd say the construction was similar between the two cars but no different to any other monocoque chassis of the time i.e. central cross brace, forward running rails etc.

    Interested to see what this does to the handling. My old saloon handled great with Spax adjustable telescopic dampers on a late Ital van mounting conversion so McPherson struts should improve on that

  • @claytonspeedcars

    @claytonspeedcars

    3 ай бұрын

    It should give a little bit of balance with the steering rack now under the engine and the motor a little further backwards. Saying that, my turbo saloon handles like it is on rails with torsion bars, but is quite harsh with stiff rear springs and tighter telescopic dampers on the front.

  • @claytonspeedcars

    3 ай бұрын

    Yes it was WOK 107J an ex press car they modified. Then they built the V8 rally car for the '74 UDT rally along with a V8 pickup for custom car magazine. The trick was to use block hugger headers on the RV8 to clear the chassis rails and a manual gearbox from a P6 iirc? The valance bulge changed to a complete centre removal on the UDT car so the radiator could be placed in.

    Hi, I heard you mention the instalation of a TR7 front on to a Marina and that this was not BL's intention. I am not here to say your wrong, however back in 1977 I was under training on The E. I. T. B. training scheme. Towards the end of my course I was shown round the Cowley works with a view to becoming a tool maker. I visited many departments at Cowley including paint and trim departments and corrosion assessment on the SD1. I was show a vehicle which was something to do with safety assessment. It had things like automatic seat belts and I think a camera rear view mirror. I have always described the car as looking like a Marina with a TR7 nose. Apparently the low nose was a pedestrian safety feature. So in conclusion your statement may have some credance. 👍Cheers

    That would have been the SRV project cars. SRV2 is at Gaydon Motor Museum and is a saloon. There was a coupe as well I think, but it hasn't survived. The front end does look very TR7, so yes, some credance.

    Considering it will be dipped again after the metal work and e-coated I think that has been covered. Thanks for watching.

    Same here in the UK really. The joke was on me particularly as I bought two of them, brand new. I did work for BL at the time, so I did get a decent discount in my defence.

    Most BL cars are now cubed. The steel was so shit, its not worth recycling.

    marinas were awful cars when new.front suspension hideous.trunions that would constantly seize,grease them regularly?you didnt have to do that on any ford,just jump in and go.worst gearbox ever fitted to any car.gear stick turning like a pudding stick because side pin breaking.synchros useless from day one out of the factory.gears themselves whining or breaking totally.BL gave up making gearboxes because ..they couldnt,had to buy them from vw to use in maestro/montego.good idea but they decide to make their own linkage.ha!couldnt even get that right.gear change horrible and then all the linkage ball joints fail.absolute shambles of a company.rover 216 vs 213 no contest back in the day.BL couldnt make a decent gearbox or even a decent car so just got the japanese to do it.ha ha.k series head gaskets?list goes on and on.A series engine good though.any way,you plod on with your long door.wont be any worse than what BL could of made,now wheres the keys to my 3 litre capri...
