You can always spot a good engineer when the roof is made to lift with the car ramp 😂

Literally raising the roof.
Charlie is the architypical mad British inventor. The amount of work that has gone into this is astonishing. Even his garage (with the raising roof) is so clever
This guy has some skills, knowledge and experience but above all, absolutely tenacity in just finding a way to get things done and push boundaries. Heres to people like him who think "why not" whilst everyone else is thinking "why do that?"
“Sorry it’s so boring” I don’t think Charlie understands the audience very well. 😂

The Engineering is more impressive than I ever realised. A wonderful British creation !
Charlie is quite inspirational the way he just cracks on with figuring out engineering solutions and reworking existing components. He's like a petrol focused Fred Dibnah.

What an interesting car and what a clever chap, Charlie is. He’s the Bert Munro of cars 👏👏👏👏👏

They're XJR alloys from the six cylinder supercharged XJ :) really suits it
You are already amazed about a tank engine shoved into a car...but the more he talks about every details, the more it's mind blowing how much work and ingenuity went into that thing! Absolutely brilliant, genius...
That intake plenum is an absolute work of art
Such an unbelievable car! I think a video of it breaking 200mph would break the internet! Charlie is the kind of guy who could engineer his way around any problem. Will - your engineering knowledge when it comes to cars is a real asset in helping this come to life. Your questions help us appreciate the things that set this build apart. This video was interesting and heartwarming. Would be good to get regular updates on Charlie's car like we used to in thr magazine.

ALways loved Charlie's Rover. The engineering skill, knowledge and capability, not to mention perseverance, of that man is beyond stunning.
Incredible. Well done! One of the most impressive backyard engineering projects I've ever seen. What a wealth of experience.
The car, the accents and shed, all present and correct. Thank you so much for a clean straightforward video, we'll done

Charlie is a proper hero! No engineering challenge is beyond him, nothing too crazy and full of ideas and knowledge! A dying breed I fear. That car is up there with 'The Beast' for being nuts!
Wonderful! Obviously the car is an incredible engineering odyssey I will never tire of learning about, but it’s particularly great to see Charlie in his shed, even how he’s built that is absolutely amazing! What a fantastic bloke, reminds me of Allen Millyard, doing incredible things with humble tools and great knowledge! Keep it coming!
I remember on 5th Gear when he said ''I'll be finished before this is''. Legend
Crazy brits in sheds you gotta luv it nice to know they are still out there.
There are easier ways to do 200MPH and this is probably not the safest way to do it either, but good on him for actually doing what most people would just talk about doing, and getting it to work. Charlie has obviously built up a great amount of knowledge along the way.
Man, his knowledge is on another level. A true maverick, what an Inspiration.
What a car! Charlie is a legend too! Saw this car at the NEC many years ago.... love it! Great content Will!
Great to see this on the channel, absolutely engineering genius. Please keep following Charlie for the updates.
Really enjoyed this, a car I’ve seen developed for so long. Keep up the good work.

He is an engineering genius! Great work 👍🏻
Whipple needs to send this guy a pair of 5L Blowers so he can run them up front like an old Blower Bentley. I'm a little surprised he isn't just running something like 2 or 4 of the biggest 88mm+ VS Racing china turbos they sell just to have the least expensive access to serious boost available. It's also a shame nobody can't regrind or make him some larger cams. I love how ingenious this man is, everything about his style is very charming, he's a handy guy that does what many would think impossible. I wish it was easier to get access to something like a Ford GAA V8 I would imagine that with some work I could probably get similar usable power to what he's making and possibly have an easier to package engine. Anything WWII aircraft or tank is way beyond my budget ir capability. Something of a hidden gem of a huge engine I have found can be bought cheap are used PSI 8.8L V8s, which are generator engines made with GM GenVII big block tooling like the 8.1L, they can be had for $1,000-1,500 used, they come turbo on gen sets, the heads can be ported, they used LS7 1.8 rockers, big cams for offshore racing are available, 600hp with ported stock heads n/a is possible so 1800hp on 3bar should be no problem from 535ci.

I think Space is the issue with Turbos and a Supercharger up front. I do wonder if Rear mounted Twin Turbos might work, although the main issue might be getting large pipes back to the intake manifold. But if he can this would be a Great way of finding a lot of power. I wonder if anyone in the States who build the Tractor V12 Big Blocks could make some Custom Cams. I'm sure someone like Ryan Falconer could help out with this.
It’s been great watching this develop over the years
Very interesting video. WHAT A BUILD! I'm in total awe! And those 220 wheels as well 👌🏼👏🏼
The plenum is nuts, I thought at first it was pretty advanced for them day and was quite surprised but I was shocked when I realised it's all custom!

The swap of all swaps, I can never watch another swap video now! 😆
The owner is both a genius and a mad lad.
Really enjoyed watching this, not boring in the slightest. What a machine. Always love hearing about what is going with this car. A rotrex centrifugal supercharger might be worth looking at as they tend to be higher efficiency. I also think if you could get whipple or magnuson to make a longer screw blower that fitted the length of the V12 with its water air intercooler would be an awesome setup. Probably cost a fortune though lol.

My dad used to have an SD1 with the LPG conversion. The conversion was a total bodge job that needed fixing... valve seat wear was a problem too. That and sand in the casting process killing radiators too...
It's so beautiful.
I am wondering so often… I mean kinda like everything is extremely overregulated, grandvathered and stuff like there on your island but if it comes to get license plates for your cars or house installations it goes crazy wild. I like it hehe
This vehicle needs to take a trip to The Tank Museum, in Dorset, the techs there would love it!
I love how a 27 litre V12 in a SD1 can be described as "practical".

It doesn't do a lot of shopping runs admittedly - but Charlie is one of the most practical people you'll ever meet 😁
A long time ago I had a SDI that someone had played with lost his driving licence, and being young I continued having it improved it would spin tyres when making pregress on a autobhan if I had attempted that on the m6 I got free board and lodgings at her majesties displeasure remember going past 7 series BMW they limited to 155 only issue 5mpg lol. But what a time.
WOOOOW!
