    I wish we could get the younger generation more interested in model building. They have no idea how much fun it is. What a great way to pass the time.

    Thats the thing thats annoyed me about the lockdowns: I still worked and increased hours covering furloughed staff. Still am to a degree. It means I didn't have time to indulge my hobbies, model making included, while everyone around me got to do projects, hobbies and so forth. The results of the last 20 months have affected people differently in a multitude of ways. I miss my hobbies.

    Thank you so much for your in-depth videos! Your videos are so comprehensive and approachable that you've given me the confidence to try my hand at model-building for the first time since a disastrous first attempt when I was a young child! As someone that is entirely new to this, I especially appreciate your attention to detail and willingness to explain your choices and methods, it is like a private lesson and tutorial. I recently completed my own USS Voyager and considering it is my first model, I am very pleased with it. Your videos certainly helped me to tackle this project (if I had done this entirely on my own, I imagine it would have looked like a real mess!). Thank you so much, and I can't wait to dive into some more models!

    Beautiful job with this kit. It's a kit I will be building in 2023. Appreciate this video with all of the good info you've provided. Its better looking than the old Monogram model. I did lots of modifications to that one back in the day adding missing details. Also liked the copper you painted on the warp nacelles. You don't see many paint them in the off mode.

    Thanks! Looking forward to seeing your build of it. I think there's lots of room for everyone to put their own spin on this kit. If I did it again I'd probably so it slightly different, but still really happy with how it came out, looks great on the shelf. 🙂

    Wow, I didn't realize the Defiant was so large until I saw it next to the other ships at the end. I literally held my breath as you cut into the name registry decal to help the decal solution soften them into the contours of the panel lines more. Excellent work.

  • @ChrisEllorris

    @ChrisEllorris

    It really feels like the Defiant should be smaller. I've seen a few references to it being 120m long whereas this model is based on it being 170m long. And it's hard to get an accurate number by watching the show because the size of DS9 is not really set in stone either.

    I started watching you about a year and a half ago. I got into modeling because of you. I want to thank you for that. So far I’ve built the following: 1:1000: -Original enterprise -Refit with battle damage -Enterprise A -Defiant 1:1400: -Enterprise D -Enterprise C -Enterprise E -Enterprise B -1:350 enterprise A (Bought another to assemble in the future as the refit. Took 2 months to build the A) -Romulan Warbird (not sure of scale) -The 2500 scale “All the enterprises” was the video I watched that you did that started it all -1:537 enterprise refit -Burton/Michael Keaton Batmobile And I am wrapping up a 1:48 AMT Airwolf model. Will be done with it tomorrow. Kits I have sitting in boxes and pissing off my wife ready to build next: -1:350 Klingon bird of pray -Klingon V’orcha class -Klingon battle cruiser Undiscovered country -Kardassian galore class 1:750 -1:1000 Reliant -1:1400 enterprise D with resin “All good things” enterprise conversion kit -Another 1:350 enterprise refit kit -And the “Build the enterprise D” from eagle moss. Up to issue 34. They cut me off after that for the last 2 months saying everything is back ordered. I know you aren’t a fan of the way this ship looks because I saw your comment the one time. Lol. The reason for this long list is to show you what you have done for me. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have started this awesome hobby which has helped me deal with things in life. So keep on doing it my brother.

    @@modelchili I would love to send you pics. But KZread doesn’t let us post pictures. Is there a way I can send them to you? There is another channel I recently started following that got recommended to me because of your channel. It’s interstellar modeler. He does a slide show featuring some of his subscribers models. He has asked me to send him pics to feature on his channel. I told him I would because he asked, but admitted that I don’t fill in my gaps that much on my models and would fear they would be inferior to his and others that post. But we are all brothers in this hobby so there should be no shame. I am happy to be a part of it and wanted you to know you are the reason why. God bless you brother and thanks for responding.

    I like watching the sprew cutting and assembly process. I LOVE the building part the most out of model building, not really a fan of painting it afterwards though lol.

    Heh I think I'm the opposite. Building is good, but I really enjoy the painting and decaling.

    I might pick one of these up. I lit a Revell Voyager but at this scale it'd go better on display with my Enterprise D and kitbashed Nebula models.

    Fantastic build, thank you for posting. I had ordered this kit already and was looking around for some tips on putting it together-very grateful for the in depth video! Do you have the specific paints/washes listed separately somewhere?

    I've been hoping that Round 2 would issue this kit. Currently working on the 1/1000 U.S.S. Reliant which will round out just about all the movie models in that scale. Just a little disappointing that they never issued the Enterprise E in 1/1000 scale. It's good that you and other builders do videos of your builds. Sometimes the instructions with some kits are not exactly clear on where things have to go. The videos sure help other builders that might get stumped on something and trust me, I have ran into a few on several builds.

    It would be interesting to see how this looks compared to the 1/1000 Space Battleship Yamato 2199 kits (you built the Andromeda from that series a couple of years back).... you probably already know that Bandai has released pretty much all the ships from the anime that are still sensible in 1/1000 (i.e. not the big villain endboss ships, but all the cruisers and destroyers and whatnot), and some of the smaller ones would make for nice quick builds. :)

    Superb work as always buddy. Love the look of the elongated saucer sections of Voyager and Enterprise D. Also, could I please ask what model your airbrush is??? And is it just a push down trigger as I don't seem to be able to see you pulling back on it. Great work matey. Please keep em coming.

    Great video, and fantastic work on the model. It's a shame you ran into those problems with the window decals...it seems Polar Lights is still having trouble in this respect; at least they've seemingly solved the "dissolving decals" problems they were plagued with a few years ago.

    Thank you! Yeah it definitely pays to double check each decal placement before you start, especially with Polar Lights. I've had issues on other kits that require decal placement before you put parts together.

    Just started working on this kit (the non-clear version) and it has been nothing short of enjoyment! Still debating whether to use the landing legs for a diorama or keep it "in flight."

    Nice! Well the good thing is that the legs don't need glue so you can remove them later if needed.

    Nice model really. People, I don't know, did you notice that the windows on the seventh deck next to the phaser bank should be set lower??? And the 12 deck should be more pronounced. The lower part of the ship should be more massive because it is the bearing part of the ship. I noticed another flaw on all the models: A torpedo launcher on deck 10 should be located on an 11-deck. For example, if you shoot from a torpedo on the 10th deck, wouldn't the torpedo hit the front of the 9th deck ???

    Love this! This is my first time watching. Been wanting to get a kit like this. Out of all the trek 1:1000 scale kits, which do you think is the easiest for a beginner? Would the Defiant be better because it's smaller?

  • @modelchili

    @modelchili

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Yeah the Defiant would be a good start, it has fewer parts and is a much simpler shape. The Reliant is also a nice small kit.

    I am very glad that you noticed the fairing differences in the back section of the saucer. The CGI's oddly curving upwards of the physical lines there, never sat right with me. Always figured it was a lazy, or rushed, more likely, piece of 3D modeling. The additional changes to the front of the warp coils, perhaps, was a nicer "evolution", as they begin curving inward at the front of the nacelle on the CGI model. Ended up sort of liking that. Your painting detail to match the shooting model photos, I think, is a much nicer, added touch. The physical model had so much going for it, that it was almost a shame that the CGI version was introduced so early in the show's production. But, advances in technology and the need to conserve money in a production environment dictate the adoption of a cheaper, if not perfected, means of representing the ship as early as possible.

    Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed! Yeah the filming model was a beauty, it's a shame they used the CGI version so much, but I supposed it allowed many more shots that might not have been possible otherwise.

    In regards to the Aeroshuttle RCS thruster packs IIRC Voyager isn't suppose to have an Aeroshuttle installed during her time in the Delta Quadrant (they left before it could be installed) and what we see in the show is an inert placeholder for the shuttle. IRL they decided to go with the Delta Flyer instead and made up an explanation as to why the Aeroshuttle couldn't have been used instead despite being so prominent on the model.
