16:40 driver idling back in reverse gear steering with his foot. NO power steering in those days either. (20 yr CDL-A Driver here, humbled) 😳

That double decker bus look really safe the way it was leaning! 😂

Wow The Hoover Dam was an impressive feat of engineering and logistics, especially for the era. Thanks for posting.

This vid could easily be 4X longer just covering the same material with a little more depth.

The way infrastructure projects are run now, the Hoover Dam would take 50 years to complete and would probably cost $500,000,000,000, after being estimated at $50,000,000,000.

It would really be interesting to see how many workers would want to remain employed by government-funded projects that included housing, meals, medical provision, and education.

I think if some thing like the Civilian Conservation Corps from FDR's New Deal was brought back, it would be very popular today.

@@LearnSomethingNew12345 I don't, unless they were typical of today's slacker gov jobs. There's a ton of 6 figure opportunities in the trades because youth are too "good for" anything involving physical activity.

@@LearnSomethingNew12345If the CCC was run as efficiently as it was back then, then it probably would be popular. But now, government is extremely inefficient and cumbersome, and most people working for it are incompetent and/or don't give a damn. Every infrastructure project now takes years to get going because of studies and reviews required by the feds and states. Then once the project is underway, they forever to complete and costs run several times over the initial estimated budget.

Incredible! Those enginneers did all that without the help of computers. Maybe that's why it was so successful? 😂

Curing the concrete, a profoundly important process which will take 125 years, was most carefully considered. Reports of cracks in the 3 Gorges Dam suggest that the project has been built too quickly. The consequences of a failure will destroy China as a great power!

Concrete heats up as it cures and can crack if it heats up and cures too quickly. The people who designed and engineered the Hoover Dam knew this would be a problem with a pour this large, so they had pipes placed throughout the Hoover Dam carrying cold water to keep the concrete from heating up. They are still pumping water through the dam all these years later.
