Building the Honda Racing 2020 Fireblade SP - Part 1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Honda Racing return to the British Superbike Championship with a new look Fireblade SP and a new line up for the 2020 season!
Honda Racing is pleased to unveil the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP that Andrew Irwin and brother and newcomer Glenn Irwin will race in the BSB 2020, as well as Tom Neave and Davey Todd in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship.
Watch as the Honda BSB team start working on the bikes, fresh from the assembly line, back in December 2019 to prepare them for the new season. You'll see the inner workings of the engineering team, their collaboration with the racers, the thought process behind bike adjustments, as well as the printing of a fuel tank with the help of partners Evotech.
After a delay to the start of the season due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the British Superbike Championship is set to go ahead with Round 1 taking place at Donington Park 7/8/9 August. The series will take place over six rounds and each weekend will host three British Superbike races, which means this year’s title will be decided across an 18-race season.
The debut of the all-new 2020 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP has been eagerly awaited on British soil by both the Honda Racing team and BSB fans alike, and in early March the team enjoyed a promising first test on the new machinery in Spain.

Awesome video guys. Can I ask why you need to 3D scan and "Reverse Engineer" those components when Honda R&D would have access to the native 3D model on which the bike was designed, which would be more accurate and have dimensions unaffected by production tolerances? I would have thought Honda would share such models with their official race teams.

I was a Honda guy for decades. Tons of V4s and loved working on their engines. Did a RVF400 engine rebuild one year. Near perfect engineering in that motor! That was in the golden years. Then in the late 90s the accountants take over. It hasn't been an Engineering led organisation for many, many years. Also, they didn't listen to what the people wanted. We cried out for a V4 sports bike for how long? Finally, after the John McGuinness fiasco, Honda lost me...for life. Outsourced ECU code (buggy) to China??@!? that near crippled him and cut short his career. New Blade: Too little...too late. Guess most of their profits have been going into RCV-213V dev and MM93's paycheck!

What are you on about? They participate in more Motorsports than any other company. SuperGT,MotoGP,F1,imsa, a load of other smaller car/motorcycle racing classes. They use racing as a training ground for their engineers, just like they always have. Watch they’ll be doing in WSBK in a couple of years.
