Building the fastest scooters in Texas: Engine/Transmission (Part 2)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Scooter 911 is building two scooters for competition in the Texas Mini Grand Prix for the 2023 season. Garret selected a 2016 Adly Bullseye as his racing platform and Keiffer will be racing a 2016 Genuine Roughhouse sport. In this video we build the engines and transmissions that will power us to victory in the Texas Mini GP formula 7 class.
Both scooters are 50cc two stroke models, are widely available, and have a large selection of cheap performance parts available. One of the goals of this project is to create scooters that perform at a high level on the race track but are still achievable on a budget and without the use of expensive special tools and equipment.
Garret's Adly motor is a loose copy of the "bugeye" Yamaha Zuma (2002-2011). This build started of by removing the old cylinder head, cylinder and piston. The teardown revealed some scoring damage on the piston and cylinder possibly from a lack of oil or the use of a low quality oil. The NCY big bore cylinder kit used in this build increases the size of the motor from 49cc to 72cc buy utilizing a larger piston and cylinder. The cylinder features a larger and better flowing exhaust port. The cylinder head has a machined squish band for better compression and more power.
Keiffer's Genuine Roughhouse utilizes a horizontal Minarelli engine but there are some specific differences between the Roughhouse motor and other Minarelli's. The oil pump and intake manifold are unique to the Genuine 50cc engines (manufactured by PGO).
The Genuine Minarelli platform differences don't just stop at the oil pump and intake. The transmission is also very unique. It utilizes clutch and variator components used by the GY6 139 QMB and the Honda DIO. This is different from most Minarelli motors which typically use components developed for the Yamaha Jog.

@@Scooter_911 My Honda metropolitan 2007. I connect the battery using jumpers it’s a little bigger then it’s supposed to be. The lights flash on and fuel pump turns on for like 1-2 seconds then everything shuts off. The battery is fully charged could someone help? Thanks
Awesome builds, we need more videos, please. 👍

You make it look easy. Your videos have helped me do so much work on my Chinese scooter, and really get a lot out of what was bought as a necessity to save money. He's a hard working little scoot. Now I'm watching this because I want to do the big bore conversion. You make it look easy, but when I see all the many many variables, I still feel out of my depth with the engine. I wish more shops would work on scooters. They would make bank on newbie scooter mechanic people like me.

Everyone starts out in the same place: square 1. The build can be done one step at a time and anything that you are afraid to mess up can be fixed my friend. Try your hand at it and maybe with a little practice you can open your own scooter shop!

@@Scooter_911 The Scoot Stig!
Currently building a new GY6 QMB139 to go real fast, but not for racing instead just getting to where I need to go quicker. Got me a 90cc kit, used the same kit before but overreved the engine and bent a valve, so now I am installing a new set of gears at the end to hopefully let me go as fast as before but without destroying the head xD Got some of those minarelli 2strokes laying about but never tried using them for anything, might be fun trying to make the fastest 4stroke and then the fastest 2stroke (within the same budget) and comparing them...
@Scooter_911

What gearset did you end up going with. NCY just released a new set of final drive gears but we havent had a chance to throw them in anything yet! As much fun as it is to upgrade the QMB motor the minarelli motors are much more rewarding to hop up. The performance gains are really dramatic!

@@Scooter_911 The only one I could get my hands on. Found options available for the 125cc GY6s but for the 50cc only one: "Stage6 Primary Transmission 17/51" (That is, anything shipped from Europe) I counted gear-teeths on everything and I should get about 30% higher top speed if everything works out. The reason why I currently stay away from 2strokes is I'have a lot of problems making any 2stroke run well, but 4strokes are easy if ya just do everything correctly.
I watch this video in several others and when you're installing the Contra sheath with the ball bearing race. Other videos they show that you're to glue the base of that sheath to the backing plate. And all you're doing is tamping it down to seat it. Which is the correct way? This is on the roughhouse scooter I'm referring to
Nice build. I would build mine but I just don't want to let go of the 100 mpg it's getting running errands. I have a stock 170cc Lifan EFI on my scooter. Was wondering why the belt goes in and out of engagement a couple of times when I'm coming to a stop at a light. Also hearing a little squeaky noise in the belt at slower speeds. Has 3500 miles and am on the second belt. Everything looks ok under the cover as far as I can tell. Great videos.

Hmmm that's a pretty strange symptom. It might actually be a problem in the clutch itself. Possibly binding up during "downshifting". If you figure it out let us know!
@dk4622

I will. I might change the variator to the same weight sliders instead of rollers to see what happens. I did grease the 2 clutch diagonal slide bearings at 2000 miles. That gave a much more positive grab on takeoff and increased the mpg to where it is now. Have a great race. 👍@@Scooter_911

Hay guys great videos just found your channel, I have 2010 Honda elite 110 can you guys recommend any sites for performance parts would be great l, just having a hard time finding parts thanks again keep the vids going, I didn't even know scooter racing was a thing
@Scooter_911

Unfortunately, as you are discovering, there aren't very many performance parts manufactured for the Elite 110. You may be able to source some transmission upgrades though, and those yield the largest gains anyway! I think a lot of the Navi Transmission parts are based on the elite 110 so you may be able to upgrade to a performance clutch and variator.

I have a 49cc tao tao scooter and it keeps dying or only going 10mph for almost the entire ride. I got a bew batter, a new spark plug, a new carburetor, ive also checked my filters and changed up my fuel. The only thing i can think is its an electric issue. Any ideas maybe? Im worried about going to a shop and paying money and it not getting fixed
There are lots of cheap Chinese scooters for sale around Dallas. Are any of the Chinese brands worthwhile? I think it would be fun to mess around with one of the 150cc scoots.

Anything is worth a couple laps around the racetrack! I would look for one with 12" wheels because they are the easiest to find race-spec tires. We race in Denton so you'd be right in your back yard!

why would use a air cooled motor for this purpose?
@Scooter_911

Liquid cooled 2-strokes have to race in a different class full of much faster bikes like the Kawasaki KX65. We wanted to be competitive in a class with bikes in the formula 7 class. We compete with bikes like the Honda Grom, KLX110 and Yamaha TTR110
