Or you could take it that a man with good intentions (and a shed load of money) decided to spend his money (over half a billion) on his own private yacht, so that he could direct what he see's as important research. No qualifications that he has (except those he's paid for opinions), but the world is full of people who have spent their lives researching this yet lack funding. I wish the owner well, as I believe he has good intentions. However, that half a billion would've been better spent if given to university departments?

Thats how capitalism works and i am very happy that this person spend it to somehow help the enviroment and our planet. he could also just bought another Dilbar 2.0 who provides nothing positiv to our planet. Second thing is that i personaly don't think that this money could be spend any better. There are a lot of thinks that needs to be reserched in our modern days but the ocean is definitely one of them.

@@x-raf7652 "However, that half a billion would've been better spent if given to university departments?" I'm not sure if you meant that as a statement of fact or as a question seeking an answer. But, where do you think the researchers on his boat come from? He himself may not have proper scientific qualifications, but that does not mean that those researchers are similarly unqualified. You do realize that the Boards of Directors that decide where the University monies are spent aren't all qualified scientists, correct?

Rev Ocean can't claim the top spot because it is classified as research. Billionaires love one upping each other when it comes to the length of their superyachts even if it is just by a few meters. Kjell Inge Røkke, the billionaire that owns this vessel is a genius, because he technically owns the world's largest superyacht without having the tax burden associated with these ultra high worth assets. Within 100 years, there will be no fish left to safely harvest, due to our own stupidity. I think the owner of this ‘giga yacht’ is on my wavelength also, curdos to him and crew👏👏👍

He sure has come along way since I worked for him some years ago, as an accountant for Norway Seafoods ASA, and before that as a skilled production worker in one of his factories in the north of Norway. I sure would like to get a tour on board that huge yacht on one of it's research cruises, but my working days are over due to my muscle disease, and I cannot climb stairs anymore. The world throws you a tough curve ball sometimes, and not all of them can be easily avoided. Best of luck to that massive research vessel. Hope we can gain a lot of valuable knowledge about our oceans and get new ideas on how to help save our planet.

A huge drawback with these mega yachts is that there are very limited places where you can ‘park’ them. On the entire US West Coast, 150’ is the biggest yacht acceptable and that’s only at ONE marina, although a second marina accepted a 250’ yacht after much wrangling. The top 25 yachts, in size are all much bigger than that. So, you can’t get maximum value by throwing dock parties. You have to live or commute to Miami or the Caribbean or anchor off-shore.

Surprising to see you so late to the party on this one. It's a research vessel not a yacht. They listed it during the build as the largest m/y. apparently for the publicity but the final designation is not yacht.

So is this the new AWOL? 🤔 Did the boss decide a new, bigger, yacht was better than a chase boat full of toys? 😜😜🤣
