I admire you for sticking around and watching countless videos on wagon/coach building..and no, I'm not finished yet. BUT..We're finally here - the first loco for the Talyllyn Railway layout 'Nant Gwernol'!

When working with resin prints, you are much better off using a razor saw to separate pieces than clippers or a knife. Either of the latter will cause the resin to flex as you cut into it, causing breakages as you found with the roof.

great thanks for that! I’ll have to give that a go next time
This is WAY too underrated! This is amazing I’m just about finished watching it so know I will watch the Edward-Thomas video! This is amazing also I love the part where you say you hate the cream interior painting 😂

I really appreciate that, thankyou. But yes, I loathe cream interiors 😅
Looks amazing! Douglas has so much character and stands out so much on the Talyllyn. Just the same with Alf

Super satisfying. Felt like that Toy Story 2 scene of the oldman fixing Woody! With the Walchaerts Valve Gear it would be Perfect.

The model came out brilliant! My heart just about stopped when the roof broke.

It’s a reality of resin and 3D prints, nothing against westcliff works atall, and luckily its super easy to put back together 😅
Extraordinary quality build as always, I just received one of those Percys for the chassis in the post a few days ago, they have no business being as good as they are!

Perfect Loco there👍 I believe the Skarloey coach was painted in Douglas’ left over blue. Great watch as always

Looks excellent. A little thought for the cab interior. If it's going to take several coays to cover, would it be worth making the first coat a more opaque white perhaps to hide the blue? Then the cream might need fewer coats.
@GWilliamsonModels
9 ай бұрын
Oh well that makes sense then, and means my model is that little bit more prototypical!
@GWilliamsonModels
9 ай бұрын
Possibly, I wonder if it’s worth painting the interior before the blue, then masking it off for the main colours
Heres a tip. When it comes to brushed detail , like that cab cream especially, use enamel paints. One coat coverage means half the buggering about

Yes that makes sense, I’ll do that next time!
A lovely looking model, Resin and 3D printing really do seem to be revolutionising the model world. I don't model in 009 but your channel is a great watch and is making it difficult for me not to have a dabble.

Absolutely love how this one came out - I am impressed by how well the mechanism hides on this thing, and I wish I had your painting skills :)) Westcliffe really did an amazing job, and so did you, so I am incredibly excited for more Tallylyn locos . For couplings, my personal vote would be the same ones as the Corris layout, partially for consistency and partially so you have the option of running stock from one on the other for interest if that's ever something you want to - but this layout is a different location and era so go with whatever works :))
@GWilliamsonModels
9 ай бұрын
Yeah I think painting it black makes a big difference, as it’s hiding the shiny brass bits on the chassis. I would love to use the chains like the Corris stock, and it’s a good point, but because the layout needs to be operational I’ll need proper couplings on this one. That doesn’t mean that the Corris stock can’t be run on the layout..
Very impressed with the detail on this one.

The real Skarloey Coach, Open No.8, was actually painted using the left over blue paint from No.6's repaint in 2018! So using the same colour on the models is spot on haha

A great job on a lovely loco. I'd suggest you tone down the bright finish on the coupling and connecting rods. In the past I've dry brushed flat black, although your method of washing black off would probably work well.

Yes good thinking, ill do that
Water slide decals really need to go over a gloss varnish, it improves adhesion, then use satin as you do normally.
@GWilliamsonModels

Yes I knew that actually, just forgot 😂
Nice job, one day I hope 3D printing will improve further and be able to avoid those diagonal printing lines (you can see them on the cab). But the details on the print are super. I also wonder how long before multi colour 3D printing??

what superglue do you use? it seems to go on nicely without any frosting!

been doing some railway modelling lately but have mostly been using spray cans and brush painting. really impressed with the results from airbrushes but dont know what to go for,, they are quite expensive so want to make sure i get something good. do you have any tips or recomendations. and douglas looks lovely.
@GWilliamsonModels
9 ай бұрын
Spray cans can work well, I used them for a couple of years when I started modelling, but the paint is too thick for models really. I never use expensive airbrush, something like this - eBay item number 203842242789 I think an airbrush is a really valuable tool to have, so try and upgrade to one when you can
