31:17 hey wulzy, instead of using vertex mode for the blending, you could go into the "blending" option and set it to additive, this achieves the same result as blending a color channel. This way, you could use the desired black blending as well

@@Wulzy black will not work with the additive blending mode of the gradient trigger tho, since it will work the same way as a black blending color channel, but using a color set to 0 opacity allow you to have a black gradient with the normal blending mode of the gradient. also using vertex mode is indeed not the best choice here, since the non vertex mode will only need top and bottom IDs to have the same effect and actually go through the entire lvl and will not require a move trigger to make the "border items" to follow the player

31:05 Actually, it is that simple! At least it almost is. You can keep it without the vertecies, and use the color opacity slider to make it fade out. Additionally, you can change the blending mode in the trigger to make it add to the background in different ways and prevent the solid colors!

something i’ve always wondered is why is everyone using gradient triggers for gradients in the background? like, i know it’s in the name, but a glow object would’ve been sufficient enough and would have been less objects (for situations like the background with the black gradient)

Probably because the trigger gives you much more control over the gradient itself. Using a glow object is always a possibility but you don't have the same control over it as you can only decide what color the glow object is and not what is above it. Furthermore the trigger lets you make a specific gradient shape and even change that shape during gameplay. It's just a better option for more control but if you just use a simple gradient a glow object might do just fine.
