    Great talk. This really gives an informative overview of all the open world tools, their importance and how to take advantage of them. My only gripe (which is not towards the presentor) is there unfortunately many times the presenter is explaining things on screen, and the camera either doesn't cut directly to it or go picture in picture late, so some of the time you are wondering what they are showing or talking about. Otherwise, very done.

    Thanks a million for this! Quick question; I would love to use the template, but 2×2 km terrain isn't very large. I would like to create a new and much larger terrain with the template. Can I just delete the default terrain and create a new one, or will that mess up some of the template settings?

  • @revan9903

    @revan9903

    Жыл бұрын

    I didn't try it out, but if you just delete the landscape and replace it, there shouldn't be any changes to the settings that come with the template. If i recall right he even says in the video that you still can replace the default terrain that comes with the template. You could also use the empty open world template, you just have to add the sky atmosphere etc manually.

  • @vonklinkenhoffn1

    @vonklinkenhoffn1

    Жыл бұрын

    @@revan9903 Thanks for replying! Yeah, I figured it probably wouldn't hurt to delete the terrain, but I'm too nervous about being wrong, so I wanted to ask just to be safe. He mentions at 14:43 that you can import a custom height map, but so far I haven't seen anything about deleting or replacing the landscape though. I could be wrong, I'll go through it again. I was also thinking about the empty one, but then I'll have to set up world partition, one file per actor, data layers, HLOD etc, all the stuff I'm not sure how to set up, so I figured I'd be better off using the other one. I really appreciate all the help I can get of course!

  • @revan9903

    @revan9903

    Another option would be to set up all the things mentioned while following the video, but I'd recommend just to create a new project with the template, then deleting the terrain and then checking if things like World Partition are still enabled.

    All those great tools but for multiplayer Layers does't work you may say it's normal, because a player may be on this zone and you could see a player floating around but for a TopDown game it could be very usefull. The only thing that work in multiplayer is WorldPartition but if you have openworld and you got 15 players and they are all on the map... world partition will load those proxy zone because there's a player that play on that zone so this will affect performance.

    I went with the template, deleted the default landscape and started making a new one, but now I have the problem of what settings I should use for making such a large one, and at the same time make the landscape as effective and useable as I can? Will World Partition fix everything no matter what I choose? I've gone through the Landscape technical guide for UE5.1 and set up landscape according to the "Recommended Landscape Sizes", but the largest one there is 8129 x 8129 vertices and I don't even know what that means in Km. I've found somewhere that it's been said that this would translate to something like 8.1 km, but my questions is: how do I make it larger? and is the best way of approaching this to make one massive landscape or several small ones put together? And if so, how do I meld them together? I have to stress that I'm NOT interested in importing landscapes, I have to make it new inside UE5. Everyone I've found that has tutorials on this seems to either just focus on importing heightmaps from thirdparty software, or just shows how to make small landscapes. How do you just make a large 70x70 km landscape in UE5 and what is the best approach? It doesn't necessarily have to be 70x70 km, but think somewhere in the line of double size of Skyrim for instance. I read somewhere that Skyrim is 37 km. I've asked the same thing in a couple of subreddits, but I've gotten no answers yet, so any help on this would be so much appreciated. Thank you all that has taken the time to read this!

You have 100 separate files in Perforce for this. I wish luck to everyone, who will use this on AAA projects. Probably, it'll lead to a massive suicide among level artists in the future when they try to find a proper file and proper version among billions of them. Will see.
