BUILDING MY KZread STUDIO ... A preview of my new KZread studio setup ... Filmed in 4k
Well, after many years of winging it, I've finally found enough spare time (thanks CV!) to build out my own little KZread studio. This has been a fun project, and something that will hopefully add a whole new dimension to future videos on my channel! This is definitely not a full, end to end instructional video on how to build a youtube studio ... but, I hope that you'll find some useful tips and tricks to consider if you plan on building out your own little slice of video studio nirvana :)
Topics covered in this video include lighting, audio, studio configuration, and decorations. Hope you enjoy! Also, a list of the items I purchased from Amazon as part of the studio build out can be found below.

    Thanks much Will! I’m excited to have this space to use now. I’m generally outside or traveling for my content, but I’m just guessing that’s gonna be a tad bit more limited for the foreseeable future, so will be nice to have this. Thanks as always for the kind words, dan

    You have very inspiring ideas, Dan. The KZread Studio is a very simple, but yet amazing idea. You nailed it with the mason jar lights! I'm hopeful that we are NOT going to film a lot in our home, frankly, but since it is a common occurrence nowadays, it is always good to consider. You convinced me, thank you for sharing!! Love your videos!

    I'm right there with you guys. I've never made time for this project because I'd much rather be out and about seeing the world. But this past couple months has obviously forced some changes, so doing my best to cross a few things off the list that always seemed to fall below the line. I think this space will come in handy when I do "tutorial" type videos, and also for product reviews, which I'm hoping to do more of. But as soon as travel comes back, that will be priority/passion #1. Really appreciate you watching and commenting! dan

    Thanks much Wayne. Just to be clear...if I had a boat and the ocean, I would not be spending my time doing this kinda project :) but since I’m landlocked and housebound, I have to do something to fend off this insane boredom 🤣

    Great video. Really informative and well put together. You have a flair for this. It taught me a lot about the importance of light and audio. We recently did a similar shoot just talking to camera in our Airbnb and it looked really bland with nothing in the background. It's difficult to set up as we are travelling permanently and have to work with what we have. You gave us some great tips. Cheers!

    fully understood. very difficult when you're on the road to have a studio like setup. When I'm traveling, i'm pretty much doing my filming outside and using natural light and the scenery around me. And that's my preference if it weren't for this darn'ed Covid19! Appreciate your kind words and look forward to checking out some of your videos here soon, take care, dan

    Amazing what a few cheap lights, a cheap microphone and some cheap decorative stuff off amazon can do for video quality. A lot of people assume they need to invest in a new expensive camera, but honestly these items can provide way more production value. Would love to see the end result if you decide to go this route!! Appreciate the kind words my friend! Dan

    I'm also using the Godox SL-60W -- can't beat it for the price ... but that fan! I'm really interested in the new, battery powered ML60 (17,250LUX). It would have been excellent in my latest video, recorded against the rising sun, though I'm not sure it would have stood up to the wind any better. :)

    Yeah that wind looked tough. I can relate as it seems like every time I’m out fly fishing ... The wind decides to follow me 😐 I haven’t noticed too much of an issue with the fan noise yet thankfully, and overall super happy with the light. I need to check out the ML60 now that you mention it ... not cuz I need it but because I’m a total gear nerd!! Appreciate the comment and support my friend!

    Thanks for the video Dan! What was the total cost of the overhaul? Some of that gear is pricy. I'm looking for the biggest bang for the buck to jazz up my Zoom presence!

  • @WhatMyLensSees

    @WhatMyLensSees

    Hey Travis, good to hear from ya man. Hope you and the family are well. As for your question, the big expense is the camera and lens. But assuming you've already go that, the rest of the stuff isn't too terribly expensive. Although you must really want to make your Zoom differentiate if you're going for a studio effect 🤣 In the description of the video, I have links to all the items I purchased so you can tally it up from there. But assuming you've got a good camera, lens and tripod ... then you just need to buy a key light, maybe a background light, a couple light stands, and an external mic. Honestly, all that stuff you could probably get for $300 total and you'd have the baddest ass zoom setup there is (at least I think it would be pretty badass!). Thanks for watching and again hope you and the family are doing great, dan
