It has taken a little longer than I expected, but the sawmill is finally coming together. It is a great feeling to see all the parts and pieces turning into a mill. There have been a lot of very late nights spent on this thing. Often until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. I just can’t wait to see the sawdust fly!
As things are coming together the tedious parts are coming to light. All of the major welding and cutting seems like the easy part now. My biggest issues to resolve are the motor and blade guard. Especially the blade guard. In the beginning I assumed it would be easy. The work is, but fittings it onto the will was not. Finally I found some threaded rod couplings I had. This worked very well. I welded one side to the mill head and bolted the guard to the other. In the end I was satisfied with how it turned out. I could have spent more time and made it pretty, but pretty was not my goal. Sawdust is!
I reluctantly decided spray paint was my best option. My debate on automotive paint didn’t last long. With the price and knowing I would scratch and bump it all the time. I felt spray bomb would be much easier to touch up as needed.
I hope you enjoy this sawmill series. It has been a awesome project that I am very excited about. Since I was a kid, I hoped one day to have a mill of my own. This may be the hard way, but it’s my way. I can’t wait to see how this thing works! Thank you for watching, commenting, and following along!
