Building my New Workshop - 2 Years+ Timelapse!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Building my new workshop while remodeling a 5 story townhouse full time is not an easy task, especially when you decide to do the remodeling all by yourself!
This video features the full build from beginning to end of one half (26 sqm or 280 sqft) of my new workshop. I started building it on December 2017 and finished it over two years later, on March 2020!
The garage, where sit my biggest tools is still a work in progress...

    I finally subscribed to your channel. It was the least I could do for the man who inspires me!! After almost 10 years I'm finally painting my shop interior. My "shop" is actually a premade shed that I purchased the week I retired 10 years ago. I was going to be away for a month, so I hired a friend to insulate and wire the shop to my specifications while I was away. Bad idea to employ a friend, at least in my case. I came back to only half of the outlets I wanted which was to have 2-220 outlets on each wall and ended up with only 1 on the back wall. The OSB that was the wall covering looks terrible because he installed it with all of the sprayed-on lettering showing from the manufacturer, instead of flipping it over. And he never installed the lighting. He did however give me back the budgeted portion I gave him for the electrical. So, I had to remove the OSB in the areas the wiring would run and installed steel pipe all around the walls for the wire to run in. This way there would be no way of putting a screw into a wire when I hung things on the wall. While I had part of the OSB off the wall for the electrician to wire in the outlets, I turned those over so the lettering is facing in. That left me with the entire ceiled and half of each wall to prime which I never got to until recently. I've spent this past few days putting 3 coats of primer on so the letters don't bleed through plus OSB sucks up paint. I would have left it natural but the white, as you know, really brightens the shop making it easier to see everything without shadows. I love your space and how organized it is. I apologize for leaving a "Novel" for you to read.

    Don't apologize and thanks for your comments! I don't hire friends (as I want to keep them my friends), and I don"t hire pros anymore (aside plumbers and electricians) so that I'm sure the job is well done! It's a lot of work, but it's so rewarding once it's done! With that said, don't work too hard!

    Merci !

    Leave a floorboard loose and fill the floor with packing peanuts and foam when you get them instead of a land fill. reduce reuse recycle fam. Free insulation.

  • @HODYODesign

    Just personal preferences,. Plus OSB is much cheaper and you can't easily spot screw holes in OSB so I can move things around without being worried about the look.

    Hola! 🖐It has been a while since you posted this, have you made any significant changes since then? It seems that you put a lot of thought into it beforehand but if you were building this shop in the middle of another big project, maybe you sacrificed a little for the benefit of time. It looks really, really good. Very nice work on leveling your two elevations of floor. You covered a drain there, any issues with that? Take care and have a good one, Adios!👍

  • @HODYODesign

    @HODYODesign

    Sorry for my late reply. I did some changes since I made the video, but I've been very busy and that's the reason why I put my channel on hold. The drain was outside originally, but it is now inside the addition built in 1990. As a result, it's totally useless and that's why I covered it. Good luck and have fun with your own workshop!

    Why did you choose to place the saw to the right? Did you have a reason like the blade sits into the table half the distance of the extension ? Mine extends 35" so I'm trying to figure out the most logical placement. I've seen some centered and some flush to the right. Trying to understand the reasoning.

  • @HODYODesign

    I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're talking about the position of the miter saw, from one wall to the other, left or right is just personal preference, as long as you have enough space on one side to cut long boards, in my case 8'. But may be I'm not answering your question?
