Really well thought out and built table Andrew! As a welder/ fabricator for the last 46 years I know exactly what you mean about workjng off of the floor, my knees are both shot! I especially like that you didn't permanently mount your bench grinder and vice to the table, I've always said that that's the best way to ruin a perfectly good welding table!

Standard welding table top should have 2" grid pattern holes. The table should also have fixtures to hold welder and tanks.

On the 4in extension, I'd cut a slot hole. Bolt them together just slightly loose. Should give enough L-R slop to enable you to pull it out as one piece again

Hi, you will need an electrical box mounted on the welding table. That box will power all of your tools required on the table during a project. Get a good solid electrical board and connect all the equipment we saw there. Thank you.

I would have liked to see you use a 1" plate for the top. I know theyre expensive, but a 1/2" will warp on you once you start adding some heat to it. That said, its a great looking table. I like the extension piece. If I can make a couple small suggestions. Weld a bar across the set bolts, that way you font have to search for a wrench to tighten them. And on the seat mount, move the bolt to the side. Its not going to be pleasant to whack your shin on it when the seat isnt there. I dont know if you did it, but add a couple bolts to the extension side so you can set that without it moving on you.

  • @4heitjer

Impressive Design, I can see that you have long planned for this. One design suggestion: stool holder welded on the inside of the upright (so 90 deg rotated in) with the bolt not sticking out. If you ever remove the stool you have a bolt sticking out to bump into, even if you remove the bolt you have the receiver w/ nut sticking out. Additional benefit of the receiver on the inside of the upright - you could put the stool under the table for storage.

I built one a few years back like that. Very nice to have. Two things i did different was I used 2' pipe on the seat so it swivels from side to side and then under the table for those jobs its in the way and then second I wired the whole table with plugs on every corner. Then all you have to do is plug a fixed cord that made into a junction box on the table and then everything has power. Love your work and the details are awesome.

Great build! I saved the video for reference as I build mine. Just a thought you may want to consider since you already have a mag drill! What if you took and in the area where your seat is you laid out holes for a fixture table say 5/8” holes on a 3”x3”center spanning a 3’x3’ section of the table of thus giving you a 3’x3’ fixture table right in front of your seat then like you said you would have the seat and a fixture table all in the same area for any small part’s all you would need to buy is a 5/8” annular bit and some 5/8” shoulder bolts. Then you could make your own stops and clamps with the should bolts!!! You would have the most versatile table I have ever seen then!

Great looking table! Two things i would add are two 4 gang outlets one on each end, run the wire in flexible metal conduit. I wired mine with a male end of a plug. That way i run one extension cord plug it in and have power without all of the cords to trip on on the floor. The second thing would of been go thicker on your table top, you have a mag drill. So all you would've had to do was drill 5/8" holes, and bam, you have a fixture table. Get some clamps weld some 5/8" bolts or shoulder bolts and you have cheap clamps. It works like a charm.

For your extendable piece at the end of the table, could you drill an oblong bolt hole and use a nylon lock nut and bolt, not tighten it all the way so it allows the metal to move where it needs to and allows you to pull both out at the same time.

I just recycled on old frame that was in an oil field yard, think it was used for some sort of storage, it’s a 3’x5’ frame built out of 2 3/8s drill stem, I’m planning on putting a 3/8” plate on top, I’m trying to come up with a way of putting my chest type tool box that’s about 2’ tall at the bottom but make some sort of slide out to be able to keep it out of the way, was thinking of bolting some angle iron on it and welding some c-channel to the frame to be able to let it slide in and out

🎂HAPPY BIRTHDAY🎂....that's one helluva birthday present you built yourself! I love the addons and the versatility, not to mention freeing up valuable work or storage space in the shop. Excellent job as always "young man"!👍👍👍👍

Sure is an awesome table Andrew. I thought about adding a sheet metal top to my workbench but it is expensive like you said
