Building Climate Resilience through Water Entrepreneurship for Women’s Empowerment (WE-WE) approach

WaterAid has been working to improve access to safe water, effective sanitation, and proper hygiene practices since the 1980s. The Reverse Osmosis intervention is generally established in regions with acute salinity problems and as a last resort for communities facing a drinking water crisis. By establishing the women as custodians of the ROs, we promote an approach which builds the capacity of the women in the affected community and provides a source of alternative income as a form of adaptation against climate change. This approach is known as the Water Entrepreneurship for Women’s Empowerment (WE-WE). The RO plant with the WE-WE Model approach provides women from socioeconomically vulnerable families a unique opportunity to pursue an alternate source of income.
