    Would also recommend a trunnion bearing kit for the rockers and a warspeed oil pick up bracket, These 2 items wont break the budget but are massive interms of fixing the major engine killing issues the LS engine family has, glad to see the content rolling and even happier to see a Ls build 🤙

    Spot on mate i have said for years a even a stock ls owned by a old fella ect should leave any shop with the trunnion upgrade like it's kinda the sort of thing a tradesman has to insist on

    Trunion upgrade is an absolute must. Last thing you need is needle rollers going through your engine. They should have had a bronze bush from factory lol

    May suggest, next time remove the box from the bellhousing, and leave bellhousing on engine or remove after box, I assume 6060 work the same as 56. Also with the bonnet, remove the single bolt on the slide section and no lining back up needed afterwards

    1000mm 1/2 inch extension, ball type uni joint and rattle gun goes a long way with bell housing bolts, also most cars you should be able to drop the gearbox a fair bit to get to those top bolts, wasn't many gearbox's I couldn't do this way in my apprenticeship. Glad I don't work in a gearbox specialist shop anymore.

    I'm doing this myself right now to my VX, except I've rebuilt the motor ground up, forged everything. Tip: how ever much you think it will cost, multiply that by 3. Do the same with how long you think it will take :) Also, anything that says it's a "kit" is never actually a complete kit. Can't wait for the next vid.

    Top job guys, cant wait to see the rest of the series and see how much power it ends up making at the end. Only thing i can point out from experience and also some others have had the same issue is careful of what looks to be the box of raceworks rails. When you do the brackets up tight with the injectors in they tend to hit on the manifold bolts. Because of that the o rings on the injectors foul and leak. Hope you guys dont have any issues like this though 👌

    Yah, just watching you guys with the spark plug boots. I had the same problem with my VZ when installing a full MSD kit & loom. I just wound up wiggling them off with multigrips cos I was replacing with 10mm leads & new plugs anyways. They really didn't wanna let go!

    Hay guys. How I remove a ls engine is remove the inlet manifold then the top bell housing bolts are easy to get and you can then use a engine lifting plate on the valve, a carby one fits using 4 centre bolts. And with the manifold off the engine will come out with the bonnet still on.

    I’m actually surprised you never just dropped the box out and sat it aside. (You can even just split the box off the bell housing to make it easier to get to the bell housing bolts) Dropping the k frame will make building your x over pipe easier. Can do it on the floor then before it goes back in. Definitely another comment and agree with doing the che trunion upgrade and the warspeed oil pickup bracket. Small insurance to be fair. Maybe even a Mellings oil pump upgrade while you’re there. But loved the episode, that turbo kit is pretty decent for the price to be honest! Going to be a good build series. Keep the aircon, put the PCM in the kick panel. It’s going to be a cool cruiser

  • @TorqueMediaau
    @TorqueMediaau2 жыл бұрын

    you can definitely get it in and out all attached together. its tight but it will get there with 3 sets of hands. if youre seperating it, pull the box from the bell housing or drop the gearbox cross member and use every extension in the neighbourhood to get in there on it. definitely also have a look at doing a trunion upgrade while the motor is apart as well as rear main and sump gaskets.

    Figures generally are all over the shop, i took it on the basis of 12-13k but im near the $18k mark and still going. 12-13k was to get the turbo kit in and going with a fresh cammed ls1 (doing the work myself) and it didnt make it that far. Its all the added stuff that has blown out cost. Like battery to the boot relocation, decided to go a surge tank setup, all new engine accessories, astra pump conversion. New power steering rack. Once you start its how far do you go. 🤣 I dread the day i look through all my receipts once the car is done and calculate everything including some of the tools ive had to buy like an wrenches and a flairing tool just for the fuel system.

Remove all the accessories, rad, starter, extractors etc. Remove the exhaust, tail shaft and then split the box from the bell housing then you can pull the motor out.
