Why the waterproofing and guttering? Are you trying to keep the below dry when its not usable space? Or you feel like dispersing the water away from under the deck? If so, i wonder, that area as been getting rain long before you added the deck, so unless it was standing water or impacting the house, i am not seeing the water proofing reason. Maybe you can add the root problem you were trying to solve?

You didnt use butyl caulk

My attached deck project is basically a rectangular 32’ wide x 15’ deep/projection from the ledger. The box’ is treated 2x12’s 12” on center attached to concrete filled sonotubes by U-brackets. Would you recommend a center supporting beam/girder? The deck is open with the exception of a 10’x12’ cedar framed, metal roof canopy which will be reinforced with tailored’ blocking. Thnx for your video and thnx in advance for your take

I did my balcony a couple years ago in 45m EPDM pond liner (30x12). I used adhesive caulking in between the through's and it helped tremendously with keeping them straight from gravity. Mine will last longer than I will.

Dude. That's sick. probably way overkill, unless there's a lot of blowing rain there, or if the porch roof is just super tall, BUT awesome. This is the kind of stuff that really sets people apart. Roughly what did it cost per sqft if you can remember?

Between material and man hours, that waterproofing system cost around $1,500 or $2,000?

love that water proofing method, can you share the details on the name of the product used ? is it just like a shower pan rubberized liner or made specifically for decks ?

How do you waterproof the railing posts going through the EDPM? It looks like just the tape.

Great video. Just found your channel. Building my deck myself with drainage like this video. Ever have trouble with the joist not touching the beam (beam nearest the house) where the joist crowns? I thought there might be 2 separate joists but looks like you ran 1 joist over 2 beams
@dscience8865
What type of g tape is compatible with epmd?

I am going to keep my joists at 12” OC. So the space between them is 10.5 inches.

Great ideas for lattice substitutes. Very digestible length.

Great work. Building a deck by myself and am doing the same waterproofing system. Did use stainless staples on the epdm? My deck frame is 42' 5.5" wide. 28 feet of that is 20 feet deep and 14 feet is 12 feet deep. Pretty proud of it. Waterproofing to use underneath as a shed for yard equipment. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
