Building an 800' Farm Fence in Rocky Ground

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The rocks slowed us down, but nothing could stop the farm fence. First time using the new PTO auger on the tractor and I think it's a keeper.

    @@metaspencer It would have taken twice as long if I was there helping. The bike ride was good. I should have vlogged it but wasn't sure I was even going to make after so many years off from bike travel.

    Nice work. I’m still working on a huge dead oak 100 ft tall, 3 ft diameter) that I have to rig down solo. I can appreciate those post hole stones. I have a couple hundred feet of 45 year old split rail fence and have been replacing the post one at a time but without benefit of any heavy equipment. The roots from my trees intertwine with the post holes. It’s rare when I can pull a rotten one out and drop in a new one. It’s always a battle with the roots and the stone. Keep up the “How You” videos. Love ‘em.

    That oak sounds like a absolute monster! I've done a few like that solo: climb up, climb down. Climb up, climb down. Sounds like you do some cool projects! Thanks for the encouragement

    I paid a guy with a tractor and 9 inch wide auger to dig 53 holes for my privacy fence. Almost everyone was dug on an angle. This must be pretty hard to master as our property is full of stones more like boulders here in Northeast PA

  • @metaspencer

    @metaspencer

    It's hard to get them in straight but it can definitely be done, especially if that auger is on a skid steer. Sounds like a nice fence!

    Y come u didn’t just dump quickcreat into the wet holes? Removed water, just to add I’d back in? I use the mix in the hole method for years and works great. Y’all making some big investments. That fencing isn’t cheap for sure.

    Aside from the frogs being down there in the holes skinny dipping, I've always wondered if the mix would be right when mixing in the hole. I've dug out some old posts before where the concrete never set, so I guess that made me paranoid. But your approach sounds good and I'm sure it works! I'm just stuck in my ways I guess :)

    Did you bother to paint the "inground" portion of your wood posts with roofing tar before pouring concrete around them ? If Not , your posts will turn into mush is a relatively short time , like 5 to 7 years or less !

  • @metaspencer

    @metaspencer

    10 ай бұрын

    nah we never do that ... pressure treated posts around here come out of the ground like new 10 years later. Maybe it's the clay and rocky soil?

    How many frogs had to die for this blasted fence, I have a property that sometimes has thousands of frogs on the grass, I try and watch out for them but many commit harry carry under the mower.i have hundreds of funerals a day, not good.

Oh, there has to be a Country song in there somewhere, well, at least I got a fenced in yard out of it, lol. Did you know she has the same heavy accent you have? And none of your videos are really 'How To' videos, they are 'How You' videos. Anywho, thanks for the video brother y'all take care and YHVH bless.
