That must of been a wonderful experience. Most kids today don't think of a model kit as a cool gift to receive for Christmas but back then, it was truly a sign of love. I can remember receiving a model kit for Christmas when I was a very young and I was so happy. 😀😀

You ended up with a great looking Huntercane, well done!!! I really like these new style Airfix kits in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale, they are fairly easy to build and have nice detail, sometimes even a bit too much. :) It was fun choosing the kit with you, just a shame they didn't have one more.. but I sure enjoyed doing my Spitfire instead, and having fun is what matters most. It was great seeing you again and it sure was a good day out at the museum. One day, somehow, I'd like to take you to Hannants proper, outside Lowestoft. It's not a place anyone would consider small.. ;) Thanks for wanting to do a buddy build with me and here's to next time.. :) :)

A friend of mine says that the model airplane kit world would be NOTHING like it is without the old-time Airfix. Airfix has done kits of planes that you can get nowhere else. I suspect they stayed with 1/72 because of the smaller square footages big city dwellers in Europe often have to contend with, but I can't say that definitively. Airfix distinguishes their older designs with a note that the kit is a vintage kit. Their 1/72 P-40 is very nice, I have their Spitfire, Wildcat and P-51 as well as their 1/48 English Electric Lightning ... all very very nice kits....

Good old Hannants! Been around for donkey's years and their mail order service and range are outstanding! Airfix have an undeserved reputation...... it's true that many moons ago, what with bankruptcy and mergers, they were a shadow of their former selves and they relied upon re-releasing old and dated models. Now, however, they are outstanding. Perhaps not quite as sharp as a Tamiya but very very good. Try any of their more modern kits and you won't be disappointed. My next build is an Airfix Hawker Tempest. It's excellent 👍

I grew up on Airfix and Matchbox models, but I never considered them of great quality. Every time I buy one, I regret it. In addition to the obvious Tamiya, nowadays there are many quality alternatives. Regards!

Well, it's cool to know that a viewer likes to think about me. The newer kits from Airfix are good and most of them are reasonably priced. Maybe you should try one of their higher end kits. A viewer mentioned that there's a huge 1/24 scale Spitfire. If you can afford it, you might want to look into it and see if you like it. Take care 😀😀

Hi QDC nice to see you. In the 70s we had Airfix, Frog, Italieri, Heller. The 1/72 Spitfires or Hurricanes of these brands were incredibly less detailed than the one you built...Now I see that Airfix produces very good models at 1/72, it's great. Your paint job is really wonderful, well done! 👍👍👍This MK I with two-bladed propeller may have participated in the Battle of France....

That was one of my just for fun kits. I normally buy larger kits' 1/48th scale or bigger for aircraft and for armor models. I do have a small collection of 1/72nd scale kits. As I said. They are a lot of fun to do for a weekend project. I'm glad you had a chance to go abroad. It is something that not a lot of people have done. The ability to meet and see other people and to just look around and see what else is out there. You happen to be one of the lucky ones. Don't ever stop building models brother.
