I like rivets as well when they're raised. because that's how rivets look. I'm about to finish an antique Airfix and a Valom Hampden and the Airfix model feels way more real than the Valom version. Raised panel lines is a bridge too far, I think. You are getting better every vid, young man ! Good job !

This reminds me of a story. When I was in university, my senior year, I did an internship in London. This was the summer of 2007. Now I worked most weekdays, but my Saturdays and Sundays were mine to do as I pleased. Being the Aviation buff I was, I had to visit the RAF Museum in Hendon. Well, I visited the weekend the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was doing the flypast for the Falklands War anniversary. As I was coming out of the tube station and walking to the museum, I joined an old man who was a World War II veteran who was an engineer on Halifax bombers. we had a wonderful conversation on the way to the museum. When we got there, he pointed out the Hurricane and Spitfire on display. He pointed them pout and told me, "Now young man, I want you to always remember this: The Hurricane did all the real work, while the Spitfire got all the glory. He also had a great story about when a USAAF B-17 wing had to make a mass emergency landing at his base. He remarked that "We all thought there was going to be a bang, but they all came in safe and sound." His most vivid memory of the whole affair were the bomber crews coming out of their aircraft and passing out from exhaustion under the wings. Managed to get a photo of one of the last airworthy Avro Lancasters in flight that day. That day was really something special.

I absolutely love simple old kits, even if they do need some work to get them fitting nicely. I'll take that kit over some horrendously over-engineered modern kit with hundreds of tiny pointless parts, that costs three times as much, any day of the week. When I was a kid (over 50 years ago!), to get hold of an Airfix kit was an absolute joy. They usually came in small polythene bags and each model had a clear plastic stand like the one in the video. They were about pocket money price, something like 2 shillings I believe, although I could rarely afford one. You would always use far more glue than you would need and it would splurge everywhere! The paint jobs were usually not a lot better either! When finished, you would stick them in a box or hang from the ceiling or, like some of my friends would do, set fire to them and throw them out the window kamikaze style!

For older decals. Especially those that have yellowed a bit. I spray on Testors decal bonder. I print out a lot of my own decals so I have it in my collection. For example. I recently built a Monogram B 24 1/48th Scale plane I recieved as a gift almost 15 years ago. The decals have yellowed and looked pretty bad. I sprayed on the decal bonder and the decals came out near perfect.

@@quickkits Yes I do. When the decals get too old as you know they will sometimes come apart when you try to put them on the model. The decal bonder will insure they do not split. When I print out the decals that I have made. For example. I make a name to put on an airplane. I will let the ink dry for a few minutes and then apply the decal bonder and let it drive for about 24 hours. After that I can apply the decals. There are times I wish I could make some movies of how I make models. I don't always go with the decals provided. That is why I make my own.

Hi Owen! First things first, I love the channel. I've been a modeler for around 20 years now and I love how effectively you demonstrate how accessible this hobby can be. It takes real skill to produce good results with the bare basics and stuff almost anyone can afford. I'd like to get back into brush-painting and those Hataka Blue Line paints look incredible and they have a very comprehensive range of military colours. Best of all, you applied them without primer! If I could ask you a few questions about them: - What, other than their proprietary thinner would you thin this paint with? - Likewise, what would you use as a cheap brush cleaner? - Have you tested out any other colors of theirs? If so, how brush friendly were they? (esp yellows, reds, or whites, the shades that tend to not cover as easily)

I still like the original Airfix kits and some of the best models produced by manufacturers in that period had raised panel lines and rivets. This was a helpful review of the paints and you gave a lot of good information on using them. Thanks for making this and the model look fantastic!

Awesome build! Nice to see you’re happy with it too. I personally don’t care too much about realism or historical accuracy. Modelling is all about the fun of making and painting something and then enjoying the results, however they are (not that you did a bad job with your hurri lol). That’s the single most important thing I learned from your videos. Cheers!

The floor polish works good on car models. Brush on finished model it gives a nice shine and makes glass clearer.
