Building Airfix BF 110 - Model Aircraft
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A timelapse build of the Airfix Messerschmitt Bf110C-2, the Luftwaffe's primary twin-engined fighter and long range strike aircraft during the Battle of Britain.
THIS IS OLD TOOLING. Airfix are releasing a new version with improved moulding soon.
Although this kit is from the Dogfight Doubles set, the sprue is the same as the other Airfix Bf110 kits. The only difference is a reduced number of decals.
I'd recommend this to beginners, but only once they have gained some experience and got some decal solution!!

The First non-airbrushed model I've seen. This is how I used to make my models.A very nice job.
I was amazed by how well this came out without the use of an airbrush

If you paint in thin layers you can get an airbrushed effect
@ShiftedGames
Жыл бұрын
When you thin the paint out with water or the appropriate solution based on your paints base, you no longer see brush strokes like a thick based paint.
Finally! I found someone that is using a normal brush that I can learn from. Thank you!
I thought I was semi-decent at model building until I saw this guys results. XD

Love these videos it's so refreshing to see someone make a model without a highly expensive airbrush kit that not everyone can afford when making models in there spare time, keep it up !

Brandon Hennessy Thanks I'm glad you appreciate that!
Good format for novice Makers...great job bud. PS. There is hope for the World yet, with such a young, articulate, clearly quite well dispositioned guy, doing something non profit to help others develop a skill. Love it.
It's a brave modeller that hand paints the canopy of a BF110 in 1/72 scale. Well done on building a model kit that I once built myself way back in the 1970's. It's amazing how such an old model mould can still be put to good use.
The use of the pencil to create a panel line effect sans airbrush is very effective
i cant believe this was all hand brushed.... im jealous and amazed. Well done!
Hey man, just wanted to say that your videos are brilliant! I love how you don't airbrush anything, just good old brushing, plus, you show what you use and time lapse very clearly how you build it, fantastic, thank you! :D

+Charlie Olley Glad you enojy them and appreciate me not using an airbrush :) thank you!
It is just what young people needs - video with quite good and cheap models with simple techniques of painting.
Nice work, keeping costs down and some clever work arounds, it's also refreshing to see only moderate weathering, many builders go way over the top. Keep it up!
Very nice job! When I get back to building this fall, I will use some of the techniques you have shown for weathering. Thank you for all of the help!
Looks Great I enjoyed your video

Yet another great build and well explained for us novices, thanks for sharing.
What a great build, lovely detail. Your inspiration and generosity of spirit shine through. Thanks.
Good brush and weathering techniques. I'll definitely try some of them on my upcoming fw190 and Spitfire models.
Another terrific speed build. Glad you used the crewman....they look great. I like your panel line technique....quick and effective. Keep having fun. Bill.

Sweet. Nice job sir . I liked the pencil for panel lines. Looking forward to more videos from you
Thank you for posting this, I wasn't gonna get this exact one, but I was going to get an old revell bf 109g 10, mostly it was the cheapest in Amazon. Once I looked at some reviews on it I then realized it was a really... old model. Being made 1976, or something, and the scary part is, I only have BRUSHES. I wasn't sure if I had the right paint for the job, or what to do with it, but this video really helped me out plan what I should do. So thanks for the great video, and have a great day!
superb work just with a hand brush. Simply amazing that you were able to make results similar to an airbrush :)
Great video Owen! Soon I'll be getting the tropical new tooled version of this and can't wait for it. This video really helped, especially how to assemble the cockpit. Take care👍
You have such perfection when creating these models and boggles my mind on how well you do it. Keep up the great work! :D

This looks really nice, especially as you hand painted it, I had this dogfight double kit as a child and while I enjoyed it immensely, not sure I could compete with your ability, but I would like to get back into modeling.
Excellent videos and nice to see 1/72 and 1/76 models back in fashion! Cool music too

Beautiful assembly. Congratulation!
Great build, Owen! I recently built the trop version myself, fun little kit! I like the "keep it simple and have fun" vibe that comes off of your builds. I tend to fuss over tiny little details too much to the point where it can suck all the enjoyment out of the hobby. Videos like these are a nice reminder where I should put my focus and lot more motivational to me than those that tell you how to get every single rivet right. Thumbs up from me!

***** Thanks a lot I'm really glad it's motivated you! I know some people spend months on a build adding in extra rivets and scratch building struts and stuff but yeah I prefer to keep it simple and fun!
Nov. 9, 2018----Thanks for the video and looks great. Got a bunch of the old Airfix kits that I haven't built in my stash. What I've always like about them is they look good out of the box, but if you want, you can improve your modeling skills by doing a lot of scratch building/modifications.
Very, very good see an excellent modeller using the old fashion way. Greetings from Brazil!
Good job mate, that model looks just fantastic.
Like the way you did the canopy, far better than all the tedious masking. Think I'll try with my 110!
Superb.. Just goes to show you don't need an airbrush to make a model look as good as this does. Well done..
At 53 just / having a bash at a spitfire 1:72 scale by airfix. I have respect to you all making something so small look realistic.
Very nice result! And video was done very interesting, good luck with your projects!
Wow the music in this is AWESOME!
These are some of the very best videos I have ever seen about building plastic airplane kits. The lighting, camera angles, and commentary are all excellent. I am very impressed with your brush-painting and weathering techniques too! By the way, I am a professional voice-over and on-camera talent myself, and I am not easily impressed. Kudos to you!
I just started up this hobby 3 months now and I have watched a lot of tutorials and how to videos here on you tube. I have to say I like how yours are right to the point and very informative. Thank you.

Jayman22 Coope That's why I make them, when I started out I was overwhelmed with the vast number of tutorial videos out there which were like 25 minutes long and usually involved an airbrush so I just stopped watching them. Yay. An easy way to get that pre-shaded look. Will apply in the near future if I could.
A very simple kit but looks amazing!
to me, it is an excellent build and paint work that I can not echieve with my airbrush. I would not quit modelling if I could do half of you, my young friend. Congrats...

with only a brush! Very cool! Nice!
Wow, nice work, really came out great.
Model aircraft was the last great hobby from the Fifties and sixties until well into the nineties before digital entertainment really took over. There is a heritage to the way Owen builds models. It was the way modellers built kits decades ago. The right paint. Good brushes. Masking tape, liquid cement and a few basic tools. It was before preshading, marbeling, black basing, resin after market parts and photo etched parts. I used to go to a hobby shop in Sydney. The best marketing they ever did was have cabinets full of completed models from Ww2, to Vietnam and present day jets even the occasional x-wing fighter and a snowspeeder. All beautifully completed. I cannot imagine there was an airbrush used from from 1983 - 1986.
This is beautifully done.

+Stephan Bodini The 1/72 Airfix Spitfire you can't go wrong with, the new tooled version is great! The starter set comes with paints, glue and brushes. Revell do some starter sets too but I don't trust them quite as much after I got a 1/72 Mustang that was quite bad.

I've got to say Owen your videos have a really high quality to them, I wish mine were as good as yours! Im just building the Eduard BF110E at the moment, I reviewed the kit and have a build thread on ISM under the name Sprue Surgeon
very neat work you did an excellent work there
Although it's not very detailed u made it look amazing well done
Great build Owen

Hi Owen, love your channel! It was one of the inspirations that got me back into scale modeling. I tried your technique with the pencil pre-shading, but I didn't get the effect that you achieved in the video though. I'll probably end up painting it over again and do a chalk wash in the end. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work!
@quickkits

That's great to hear that my videos inspired you to get back into it, but I'm sorry the technique didn't work. Make sure your pencil is a 2B - 5B, HB and H's won't smudge easily
@KitKabinet
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, I did use a 4B, but I suspect the paint I used was too matte (I used Revell acrylics) and possibly the graphite settled too much into the surface structure to be able to smudge properly. I'll try again sometime on a semi-gloss surface to see if it makes a difference. Cheers
Damn, that turned out great. This is why I like the early Airfix kits....build 'em out of the box or if you want to improve your modeling skills, you can go to town on it re-scribing panel lines, scratch built cockpit interior, etc.
the pencil technique was cool!might want to use it on my next model project.
