Building A Wave Wall on the Port Side - Emerald Isle: Ep.104 Fishing Boat Refit

Welcome back, crew! Today we start work on a wave wall. This will be a covered area of the deck used to cover some gear and provide shelter in adverse conditions and winter, but mainly to be the center of our processing area.

Being on submarines for 20 years when we came into port, we’d be standing topside and the wind would try to blow our ball caps off, so we tied a piece of shot line to our ball cap and then to our life preserver. Cannot be topside uncovered. Try tying a shot line to your microphones and then to your coveralls.

That's a good idea! Next set we get we'll have to do that.

Lanyard and pin! I put a lanyard around my wrist and attach it to the tool in use via homemade clip points after dropping a favourite ratchet in the drink.

Looks like poor Mike didn't know how to swim 😂 The sound was still good throughout the show. That deck looks beautiful.

Funny losing the mic footage. Father and son working on a project, and pops goes back to take a chill in the shade and pops his mic off…cool to catch a little moment in time like that on video, felt the pain…Boat looking great, can’t wait until she starts fishing!

Hi guys, nice job, plans coming together nicely, looking good 😊, I bet you can not wait for her maiden trip. It's nice to see you smiling and overcoming those little problems, ie the microphone had other plans lol. Best regards John john from the North East Coast UK 🇬🇧

Maybe tie a cork onto the mics when you're by the railing of the boat - just in case. Not sure if they are waterproof or not. Boats coming along fine. Have to get it out fishing so we can get our Halibut ;-)

Yeah, I wish we would have put a pin onto it, the darn things NEVER fall off until the wearer is in a precarious place, lol! And absolutely, look forward to fishing soon!

Wouldn't need the shelter when running halibut though since you have to ground process I imagine.

Wind Wall? Wave Wall? In Alaska? Who wudda thought you needed that? 😂. Filleting halibut and rockfish will be much more comfortable and safe when it's blowin' 25, not to mention rain.

Not for rockfish and cod. Halibut quota goes by vessel length so we will need to fisg C class quota and up on the Emerald Isle. Tanner crab is 60' and under and ober 60', so we are good to go on that.
