Game has basic physics: gravity, rotors, hinges, pistons, and wheels that interact directly with the surface, plus jet engines, aka thrusters. Blocks deform and break. Bending of “solid” structures happens but few ever notice as it takes a kilometer long horizontal structure before it moves enough to break, or maybe two kilometers.

This video has taught me two things. 1) you can make autominers and not have to do the work yourself. I usually play solo so its really hard having to constantly go back and forth for materials. 2) you can make autobuilders by having a contraption with welders and materials.

Beautiful work, though I admit I had to scream "NOOOO!" when I saw that vectored thrust ship. Those things were a fad a few years ago but they're super janky when trying to make precise maneuvers since they tend to move in a sine wave pattern when you tap the thrust forward and back. Not at all surprised you almost immediately converted it back to normal thrust.

If you can surpass the build height limit, which I believe you can do with sub grids, then it’s technically possible. The moon is about 180km away from earthlike, and he probably got 20~ kilometers up, so it would definitely be a feat. Not to mention that if you built it at a angle/ in a place that wasn’t perfect, it would miss the moon entirely.

Impressive your base didn't exploded. Looks like a lot of clang. In our last game, we had build a partly underground moon base with big, auto orientating solar panels. Someday, everything blew up and several parts of the base exploded simultaniously. But maybe just someone let the handbreak on while his car was docked. In the end, we never established to finish an self building space elevator. Build limits, exploding things and detaching grids due to not rendered stuff, the game always found a way to destroy our efforts. Autominer btw. where also very prone to blew up one day (after working for a long while). Do you have any "clang avoidence" rules you follow to prevent damage? Like "no more than one subgrid" or "don't use merge blocks permanently" - I've seen you removing them all the time, or any kind of worshipping the clang god?

the game needs more realistic physics, hopefully we will get it during the next gen game engine in vrage3. If the materials that one chooses are weak or strong that should determine how big and deep the pylons that are and will be needed to go down to build the platform on top of them, not to mention how thick the rails would need to be to avoid a whipping or very shaky structure effect at the top of the elevator. the games physics should try to mimic real life as possible in all types of conditions. We also need composite materials that can be made by the players by mixing materials together to give certain materials amounts of tensile strengths depending on materials used. certain materials will add to structures tensile strength, and some will take away from that, but each should have their own advantages. It will just make people think of their builds in a more methodic way. we need water and plumbing, heating and cooling, in the game we need wires with selective gauges too to wire the individual electronics, components and chambers up too. If I knew how to program a game engine for use of a better space engineers' game, those are exactly what I would do. I think making people really think about the real-world design of the ships would be beneficial to society and would be the ultimate geek game.
