    I really loved the thought process behind this setup, as well as taking us on that journey! I so value and believe that the space behind you is so critical for setting context for the subject and appreciate the time you took to get it right. One thing I did think of when you were playing with the positioning of the lantern, was grabbing some small strips of duvetyne or cinefoil and some c-47's and just flagging off small parts of the lantern to give you a bit more shape if you were looking for it. Cheers!

    Great, but this setup works only for talking head videos and when you have such space behind you. Won't work if: 1. You want to show your table with your hands on it (to show some stuff). 2. You want a second camera setup, like from the top (for unboxing videos). 3. Your wall is just half a meter behind you and you don't want to light it. 4. You wear glasses and/or a cap. 5. Your corner (the wall) is not white. So I would say your setup is really specific.

    strangely specific to what i’m struggling with !! this was a really great video, though i do have one thing to note; the globe (??) softbox you used spills a lot of light into the background, as opposed to the mini soft box. i think the mini soft box has a better contrast between you and the background, but you could probably achieve something similar by blocking the light directed towards the background with the globe one. i have a little more space than you so i think im going to opt for the mini soft box and smaller light stand, maybe using a grid to help reduce light spill also. very inspiring!!

  • @thejosebravo

    @thejosebravo

    6 ай бұрын

    I'm glad to know this video helped you! Yeah for sure a mini softbox will give you less spill overall. In my case, I wanted a brighter background so the spill was intentional. But if you're looking for more contrast a dome with a grid is the way to go. If you have the space and the budget get a 90cm softbox like the Aputure Light Dome II, the quality of light is a lot better.

    Buen video Jose! Un par de preguntas a nivel técnico, veo que usas el Atomos como monitor. Grabas en Slog 3 verdad? Tienes algun lut puesto en el monitor? O grabas directamente sin perfil de color y así es como se ve directo de la cámara? Y luego, me preguntaba si también usas el Atomos como grabadora, osea guardas todas las grabaciones dentro del monitor?

  • @thejosebravo

    @thejosebravo

    5 ай бұрын

    Que tal! Sí grabo en V-Log, pero mi cámara envía un LUT directo por HDMI al monitor entonces no necesito añadir nada extra. Para este tipo de videos no uso el monitor como grabadora, grabo directo en la cámara porque los archivos son más pequeños pero igual son 10bit. Sólo grabo en el monitor cuando son proyectos donde necesito la mejor calidad posible para la corrección de color.

  • @thejosebravo

    @thejosebravo

    6 ай бұрын

    The monitor I use is an Atomos Shogun 7. I got it several years ago to use professionally, so I wouldn't necessarily suggest it for everybody since it's a bit expensive. I would definitely recommend having a monitor though, and if weight and price is not an issue I would go for a 7 inch screen. If you just need a basic monitor for reference something like this might work: amzn.to/499Y4Mc (affiliate link). But if you have specific needs then It's better to look online for reviews to make sure the monitor has all the features you need Just make sure to get a power cable and necessary adaptor to connect your device to it. I've never connected an iPhone to a monitor so I wouldn't be able to help there. I hope this cleared some of your doubts! Thanks for the support.

    @@Itsfloorseats If you don't like the distortion of the 16mm then I think the 23mm should work, it would be equivalent to a 35mm in full frame which is my favorite focal length. But for this type of talking shots I find it beneficial to be closer to the camera so I tend to go wider. Maybe a 20mm could be a happy medium for you? At the end of the day it comes down to your taste and your workflow. If possible try a couple of focal lengths to see what works better for you.
