It's so fascinating to know that this is an established idea! I'm a 22 year old with only a high school diploma and recently I've been expressing this idea as "externalizing my brain." I think that my ADHD related memory issues and a personal history of being gaslighted have really made me a bit or a memory/information hoarder and I'm so happy to learn that there are ways of getting organized at the level of abstraction my mind works at. Wonderful! This really motivates me. I only studied computer science and math at the bachelor's level and have started working as a software engineer. But it has never excited me as much the idea of working on novel problems academia provides. I also just think the brain, the nature of intelligence, and it's connections to modern AI are a really fascinating mystery. I hope to really pursue this path and this helps a ton.

I found that I've been passively doing this already in the form of journaling, making notes, etc., but bringing a deliberate intention into this through C.O.D.E. is something I'm keen on trying now. Great video!

Hi, a fellow neuroscience phd student here in the US! I'm a first year so having a more experienced phd student in the field has been great to listen/interact with! I am using an ipad to read papers in the hope of reducing paper waste -- what apps do you use to annotate research papers and gather those notes into your second brain?

Mostly Goodnotes, Zotero, Instaper and Notion. I'm not completely satisfied with the integration of all of these apps, but it works quite alright. Hope you enjoy your phD! 🧠

Seems i have been doing this for years. But to me ideas are easy. I had to stop reading science papers because ideas piled on. With no way to make them real it hardly matters how many or how good the ideas are. I guess that's why co.pter science has been more expressive for me. Things can be created. Physical artifacts and processes take spacetime and money that not everyone has. Its to bad societies were not more focused on innovation vs entertainment or ... well let's say other pursuits

Yes, I really like what you say and even though societies are indeed leaning more towards entertainment, I think we can build our lives to lean more towards innovation and creativity 🧠
