Building a Rocket Stove Heated Pole Barn Workshop (what about the ducks???)

I put the finishing touches on the off grid workshop including hardwood floors, insulated wall paneling, ash panel coverings, work bench and a custom built rocket stove heater! Hand warmers: www.amazon.ca/dp/B08GQ34XWW?r...
Website: www.ocoopa.com/
The workshop is also outfitted with lights so that we can keep working through the shorter winter days.
We build a pine sided work shop with double sliding barn doors to store tools for future builds at the off grid cabin in the woods! The roof is supplied by Vicwest (Roof): vicwest.com/
The workshop is made from mostly free or nearly free materials except for the roof supplied by Vic West. The roof is steel and will last a super long time. It's the right material for off grid building because it is durable and requires almost no maintenance.
The work shop is designed so that the barn doors open completely exposing the entire building to the outside. This means we won't need any lights to work during the day. The roof is insulated with re-used materials of garage door to help keep the heat inside. We didn't work on the inside in this episode, but will in the next one.
The siding is from a pine tree taken from the property from a replanted mono-culture forest that needs to be thinned. The siding is cut down to boards with the help of the portable sawmill which keeps costs super low. The posts that hold up the main structure is from cedar trees also found on the property which are also too tightly packed creating a forest fire hazard. The idea is to thin the forest so that new growth can occur and help the forest turn over better and be healthier.
The doors are from reused materials from garage doors, and some boards discarded from another project. The aim with each build is to keep costs down as much as possible!

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

I wish more people would appreciate the beauty and prestige of cherry wood! Love it. I once built an entire home office for a client out of cherry wood...cost a fortune.

Love the work bench. I just finished making three new workbenches using the same techniques. No nails. Good old fashioned construction.

Another good use for those tarps... The floor of an outdoor hockey rink, before you flood it. Did this many years ago when I lived in Halifax.
