Building a retaining wall & new labourer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Building a retaining wall out of blocks and laying them on flat to make a 215mm wide wall. Mostly footage filmed using the GoPro on my head and featuring my new labourer who is helping for the next couple of months (hopefully!).

Cracking job Sam. So therapeutic watching 🫣. All the very best with breaking in the trowel and young Danny 😊

Beautiful work as always buddy. The quality on the video is amazing. I can see that lovely mortar in all its detail. That is a very long retaining wall. And this vid is perfect timing as I’ll be starting the blockwork for my wall in a few weeks. Nice to see you’ve got a new helper. Hope he’s eager to learn from a master! Are those wall ties for the concrete to cure around to grip onto the blockwork? And that footing for it looks like a monster. What dimensions is it? Got to be 400mm deep like mine.

Thanks! New GoPro so that explains the better quality. Yea Danny is turning out to be a quick learner but he’s going into the motor trade in September. Ties are to grip into the concrete backfill yea, just to tie it all together a bit more. I didn’t do the foundation but that is a huge pour and at least 400mm like you say, it was because when they dug out the first bit it was lower than the house next doors shallow foundations. I think the guy that did the shuttering and pour was glad to get that concrete in before any movement happened!

@@brickbybric Yea, sadly both those Bon trowels broke on the handles so they exchanged the last broken one for the Marshalltown. I need to break it in now though as its like using a shovel!

@@SamDaviesBuilder the Bon trowels are forged in Slovenia Sam ,but from what I’ve heard they are shipped to the u.s.a with out handles . So the handles may be sourced in china and may not be the best quality if they are splitting like that .
