Building a PreRunner Tube Bumper & Skid Plate FROM SCRATCH on a Full Size Bronco - OJ’s Rusty Nuts!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Hello, folks, and welcome back to the channel!
I’M BACK!!! Sorta…
I wish I was bringing all you hotrod-hungry folks a roadster video, but I’m still smack-dab in the middle of this house shuffle. But hammering nails for a month had me seriously itching to get behind my welding lid. And a Facebook Marketplace deal on some TOO-BIG tires created the instant necessity for a new bumper on the #FullSizeBronco. After all, I’ve always wanted to build a #PreRunnerBronco…and now this sort of looks like one, so, HEY, there’s that. :)
I hope you all enjoy this week’s episode! Thank you so much for the education on using that tube notch tool and how you use clamps to measure the length! Measuring tubes and notching them breaks my brain so this was very valuable haha Hope this will help me not waste so much tube and get the angles right! Will be using that technique to design and build my front bumper for my Tacoma! Amazing build and thank you again for the huge tip/help!

This is a little bit more expensive material, Dylan. 😂 Though I may or may not have welded some stuff out of some fence tubing when I was young and dumb (re: broke). 😳 Be sure to drink your milk, first.
I really appreciate the detail of using the Pipe Master. The bumper came out super nice. You have inspired a few tricks I will be trying out. Thanks

@@crazycaseyscustoms I'm currently building a Tahoe "Prerunner", that's technically more of an overlander due to geographical limitations. I've also got full intentions of doing a bumper like this for my Silverado as well. Videos like this are the best. You're in a driveway, with "regular" tooling, making something that looks straight out of Ensenada.

Thanks man! I’m getting ready to tackle the rear here pretty soon, and I’ll definitely put it up on the channel when I do. My goal is to completely build the entire truck (cage, suspension, etc), so stay tuned @@anotherpewtertahoe. And feel free to ask any questions; I’ll answer every one that I can. 👍🏼👍🏼

Haha! Good eye, @1967dvs. Ian is THE best. Such a creative dude. I bought that shirt when his Shop Inspector was having some high vet bills. Thanks so much for the kind words, and my apologies that I didn’t see your comment sooner. We just got done moving states, so I’ve been swamped, but hoping to get back on the Bronco project soon! ….mmmaaaaaaaaayyybbee. 😂 I saved all my templates because for a half a second I was thinking I might produce these bumpers. But then Desolate Motorsports literally released a bumper of the exact same design the day I posted this video, and they sell it for $1,500, and I just couldn’t compete. Are you on IG? You could DM me your address, and I could photocopy my templates and mail them to you. I’d be happy to do that for free. 😊
Hey Casey, what suspension do you have on the Bronco?
@crazycaseyscustoms

Stock. There’s a Daystar leveling puck in there, and really good (Bilstein) shocks.
Where did you buy the bar and sheet metal?
@crazycaseyscustoms
2 ай бұрын
Reliable Hardware & Steel, Santa Rosa, CA. Any “steel supply” should have what you need.
I was curious if you did anything to widen your front track width, other then having more negative offset wheels

I believe they were called MR101’s, @@Sazqwatch15. They were a forged method racing beadlock, 15x8” with 3.5” backspacing, I think.

What was the specs of the sheet metal you used for the skid plate and also the mounting points? I know it is 2 inch tubing, but what is the exact numbers to it, like thickness? Great video. Can't wait to make my own
@crazycaseyscustoms
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Skid plate is 5/16” 6061 aluminum, but 1/4” would have been more than sufficient, and the tubing was 2”x0.120” wall; I actually used HREW, vs DOM, which is fine unless you think you might build onto the bumper with your engine cage at some point in the future.

@@crazycaseyscustoms Where did you get your materials from?
@crazycaseyscustoms
Жыл бұрын
The tubing came from Reliable Hardware & Steel in Santa Rosa, CA, and the skid plate came from M. Maselli & Sons in Petaluma, CA, @@emartnn. Any metal supply should be able to provide the material, however.

Жыл бұрын
@@crazycaseyscustoms Thank you! Do you know the length of the tube you used for the long top cross of the bumper? Also how did you cap off the ends?
@crazycaseyscustoms
Жыл бұрын
I used 20’ total for the whole project. The top tube was a little less than 10’. I used the round hole saw remnants from the bumper stringer plates to cap the tube, @@emartnn. Are you trying to build the *exact* same bumper? I may be able to put you together a “kit” with the various plates and tabs; it’s something I have been thinking about doing since I got the CNC plasma table. I’d just need to program the parts in from my original templates. 1/4” mounting plates, 1/8” stringer plates, and I could probably even come up with light and skid plate tabs. I’d have to price the steel out, but I’m thinking it would be around $200. And of course you’d need to buy your tubing and skid plate.
What size tubes?
