Building a Polytunnel | Our First tunnels 40ft completed | Ready for winter

Finally our ‪@polytunnels‬ is complete and ready for some winter growing. Over all very happy and although we had to battle the elements it was a lot of fun especially getting the polythene over the top.

We are- a family of four,
Mum- Annie,
Dad-Bruce
Two children Elsie and Betsy
One dog - Doug
and we decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 12 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

    Having out up a number of tunnels I can say hand on heart you've done a great job on that one..interesting you've got the end timber cross rails very low..maybe FT instructions have changed..yes the inserts for the base rails are hard work we found a blunt wallpaper type scraper and warming them all up before starting was a great help!!

    @@OffGridBruce last February at short notice we built a new tunnel, it was honestly one of the toughest things I ever did. It was the fifth tunnel that we built but building in Feb was grim! whats the ultimate aim? living truly off-grid? because it seems, as of now, that you are firmly plucked into the grid. all the electricity gotta come from somewhere. nowhere do i see or hear a generator or solar or windturbine. off-grid also means, using what the land grants you, so a metal framed greenhouse seems a bit off. but maybe i am totally wrong and dont understand any of it.

  • @OffGridBruce

    @OffGridBruce

    2 жыл бұрын

    No that’s totally fair. Currently off Grid for heating and water supply but we still have a grid connection for electricity but I use my van for power when to far from the house. I have an inverter that is capable of running all my tools etc. long term I want to unplug completely but I’m not sure which way I want to go. Been hugely inspired by Mark Boyle who lives with no electricity at all. In the new year I’m going to go a week without tech or electricity and see what I learn and how I feel afterwards
