I totally understand the scrap wood issue. I have a frickin load of good usable stock but no real space to store it. It's a constant struggle.

You really need to shield your laser to keep everyone safe if they enter your shop when the laser is burning. The new Ortur with the built in shield helps make it a little safer but there are still too many ways to get an accidental unshielded view of the laser or a stray reflection and it only takes a second to do severe damage to your eyes. Let me know if you need a link on where to get the correct OD 4+ acrylic to use in a shielding box.

That's an LM2 Pro. It has built in shielding.

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I understand that it has a shield already. Perhaps you should re-read my comment. The built in shield is NOT sufficient for full protection. But if you are prepared to risk your vision or worse, someone else’s vision, that’s on you.

@@BlurpeeBaggins According to Ortur, they use 250nm to 520nm laser shielding acrylic on the laser, so I think that would suffice. The light waves that escape through the small gap at the bottom will not harm anything, it's the actual beam that needs shielding, but you do you.

For storage for your sheet goods and scrap wood make a box and then suspend it from the celling and use a wench to raise and lower it?

That's a good idea in general, but the weight of the plywood in that Baltic birch plywood cube is probably over 300 lbs.

Really cool build Sam, I have a dual station setup of my LM2 and LM2 Pro on top of a small table that doubles as a router table sled. I have to remove the screws from plywood and MDF that my lasers are mounted to the table with. I have a one car garage shop and zero space. Your idea will be perfect so thanks.

Sam, your Fusion 5 will run light burn with no problems? The reason I ask, I have a Ortur Laser and my Chromebook will not work with it. Going to buy a window base laptop but if the tablet will work? Thanks for any info and enjoy your videos!

Yep, it does well! I don't design with it, but have used it for in-shop edits of files as I work. It's been a great tablet for my needs. Thanks!

Sam how do you like the fusion 5 for running the CNC and laser? Has running your programs slowed it down at all? Do you think it could run sketch up or fusion 360 software as well or would it tax the tablet to much? I am looking for a good alternative to taking my laptop in the shop.

I've been very pleased with the tablet running Carbide Motion & Lightworks. However, I only open and run files on it -- I do not edit or design anything on it. Lightworks would run on it okay I think, but any CAD design program would not do well on the tablet. This is a great solution for me to be able to design on my laptop, save on my network attached storage drive (NAS), then open in the shop and go.
