Man it’s a shame that Coles went and made one of their coolest marketing decisions not eco friendly, and thus probably won’t be making any more. That was one of my favorite of Max’s vids. That whole video was a fun ride from seeing him pop those minis in the collectors case, to watching him eat the expired, bleach soaked products.

It's legal to make generic compatible Lego pieces because you can't copyright a physical design, you can only patent it, and patents are limited, and have expired for Legos. You can't market them as Legos, though, because the name Lego is a trademark and trademarks don't expire unless you stop defending them.

@@soulassassin0g actually, if the name of your brand becomes too synonymous with the product itself you can lose your patent in a sense since it's become generic. Lego is doing really well at preventing that.

@@soulassassin0g Yeah and LEGO is doing everything to avoid people calling all building blocks "Legos". Their legal team is sending cease and desist letters to people doing it openly, e.g. on KZread.

Honestly this is kinda neat, i like how the stickers fit on the pieces especially shit like the toilet paper or the diapers with the one long sticker, also this is probably the only mystery pack thing where getting doubles isnt even a bad thing, like having 2 shelves worth of something in a super market looks better/more realistic than just one.

imagine getting one of these for yourself or for your child/younger sibling etc. as a treat but then you open it and all you get is a single recycle bin or a fridge door

It’s actually really nice that some of these you can get for your purchase and you also can buy the base. Here in Russia it’s trendy for some local supermarkets to give you little rubber things attachable to itselves, keys, buckpacks etc. (Скрепыши they called) Although not so long ago I collected mini versions of real products and even had selection of seeds! I think seeds collectibles are really cute. I have grown a basil on my window. Sorry for rambling, love the vid and you Max 💖

Yeah we do get a lot of good rewards, the mini shops from coles were great and they also sometimes give away glasses and Masterchef knives that are actually decent quality. Probably my favourite would be the woolies cardboard Christmas sets, which they haven’t brought back ☹️

i think it might be just max not pressing them down? i know sometimes non legos do have compatibility issues within its own set. from what i remember as a kid, litebricks in particular were super scuffed. the boards and stuff were sometimes too tall for the litebricks people's feet. also hi goherping!! when worlds collide

Here's a little bit of information for Max. Lego doesn't own the rights to buildable toys which is why you see stuff like this. The closest to a legal document Lego got was for their Lego system and the Minifigure, but since patents expire, it makes Lego's innovation to the brick and their figures technically in the public domain.

I occasionally work at Woolies and have chucked hundreds of the packs into people’s online shopping orders, but I swear I’ve never felt a pack as bulky as those fridge/freezer parts. So yes, I can see how difficult it would be to complete this set naturally.

As a supermarket employee the banana in the onions section was very accurate

I remember when the Coles minis came out there use to be a bunch of Facebook groups where people agree to meet up somewhere in town to trade them

I am moving Australia soon for work so I have been looking into local stores and getting a feel for grocery prices etc. I saw these advertised when looking through the Woolsworth flyer/ catalogue. I was very confused as to why a grocery store had exclusive Lego knockoffs...

Not gonna lie these are actually pretty cool for free ads you get while shopping at a supermarket. If I had a Woolworths in my area I would shop there.

It is legal as Lego didn’t design the brick itself, but they did design the minifigure, that’s why the people in these look so different. :)

I know all the toys are plastic but I'm actually really glad they at least used SOME paper packaging. Much better than like LOL dolls for example, where it's a plastic ball wrapped in 3 layers of plastic, and inside the ball are individually plastic packaged plastic toys. It's actually goddamn insane how much plastic they use to package like 1 tiny doll and 2 or 3 accessories. Just nice to see at least the most minute effort to cut down on plastic.

It's quite strange indeed. In Germany Woolworth only sold plastic crap like a 1€ store plus some cheap electronics and stuff liek that. No groceries or anything you would consider fresh food...

I love how they actually bothered to change the name on the stickers for selling in New Zealand and didn’t just sell Woolworth’s branded stuff in Countdown stores. All the lesser informed people would have been so confused why it has the wrong name

I love building legos, one of the most therapeutic things for me but it's crazy expensive.

We lost Woolworths in the uk probably in the 90s if not earlier - but sang in the 70s - my fathers a lavatory cleaner he work all day and all night - and when he comes home in the evening he’s usually covered in- shine up your buckles in brasso it’s only 2p a tin- you can nick it or buy it from woolies depending on whether it’s in

This is making me want to overcome my fear of spiders so I can get these… I like the store part thats all 😂
