Best thing you can do is just start making everything that comes to mind that seams cool to you. Along the way you’ll acquire the skills and tools to make those things. One more thing I’ll add… sell all these projects for cheap, call that a free education. Good luck!

This is great stuff and its something I would love to get into so I would like some advice from a professional! I am 18 and just got out of high school. Right now I'm just working in a little restaurant but I want to actually start a career and that career just so happens to be woodworking. I just have no idea how to start it or make it profitable. I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain how to start a career in this business as it is something I have been interested in for years!

This question… it’s a long answer, long enough to make a few videos. Plus it would be hard to answer without knowing more about your capabilities. I would start by making cedar raised gardening beds. By the time you make the first 10 of them you’ll have learned a lot and acquired some tools. Don’t quit your job yet, start woodworking on the side for the first year at least.

You seem to be in a similar spot as me. Im 17, I have done basic woodworking making a shelf,cutting board, and some sconces in shop class but since then I haven't made anything since I don't have any equipment. Hoping to buy some this Christmas. Once I get a hang of it again I want to try selling some stuff. Just don't know how much time I'll have since I'll start working in a manufacturing plant after the school days this year. I have no idea if I'll really like it or not.

^^^Cedar raised beds!! The wood is cheap and youll learn alot of the basics that will carry over into other projects. Then get into outdoor furniture, people love their yards and spending time in them. Its not glorious or romantic but itll make you some coin to keep going. Then just keep going, Youll never be able to plan it, but if you just work itll find you.

You literally get out of woodworking what you put in, if you put in the effort and time, create things that are original and well made and you can put whatever price you want on those types of pieces and providing you have put time in to marketing your brand and the right type of people are seeing your work, then they will sell no matter what. Be original Make quality products Know your customers Know your limitations Build a brand….. Do the above and you won’t need to worry about money again.
