Building A Log Cabin | Ep. 65 | Finally, a cozy place to relax in a snowstorm! Winter Cabin Life
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
In this episode, we finally receive our custom foam shapes for our nook. We carry them up to the cabin and get ready to start sewing. But first, we need to repair our snowshoes before a snowstorm rolls in. Once they're fixed, we use them to get some water from our stream. Next, we repurpose an old, broken snow brush into our solar panel cleaner by cutting it in half and taping each end to a long branch. We finally tackle the upholstering of our couch cushions. This ended up taking us a few days since we are sewing amateurs and sewing on the zippers was quite technical. After almost giving up a couple times, we finally finish all 4 foam pieces and can relax in our nook! We end the video by installing some string lights in the nook to make it extra cozy.
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

Me and my wife are always awaiting your new videos more than anything else... we often comment on the progress and ingenuity of your approach to various problems you encounter. Btw your new sofa bed is awesome! We look at you as our kids and seeing Mela smiling with joy after hanging the lights made our day... great job guys!

God loves you. Repent of your sins and believe in the Gospel. Jesus Christ is coming soon ❤️🩹‼️
Nick, Maela and coffee on a Saturday morning. Doesn't get much better than this! A bit of memory lane for me with the cushions. I was in one of my early bands, Kudzu, back in the 70's and we had an old school bus that we removed the seats from and built seats along the wall of plywood about 2' wide and we did exactly the same thing. Bought the foam and some material much like what you used that was a dark burgundy and made the covers. Worked quite well. Seats in the daytime, bunks at night. Always love your vids. Winter wonderland there I see. So peaceful! If we could only spread that peace around the world in these troubled times. Merry Christmas you two!! ❤❤

Every time you comment, we learn something new about you and we’re loving it! You were in a rock band in the 70s?! You must have so many stories :) are you guys’ album called "Chittlin' Circuit"? How long did you live on the road like that? As always, thank you for your support :)

@ How did you find the album? Amazing. Yes, it was Chittlin Circuit! That particular band was together about 6 years, but there were others over almost 50 years of performing. My last 20 years of performing however was as a solo artist. So much of my life I spent on the road in different forms. The early years were tougher than the later ones, but then, I suppose it's that way for most people no matter what profession or life style they choose. Tho I'm now retired from the road for about 10 years, I still make music vids and other stuff that I have interests in. And yes, I have lots of stories, and most of them are true lol!
I love that you both work together in perfect harmony and with so much precision. Absolute professional touch.
Iv been a seamstress for 30 years and I am impressed by the way your cushions turned out well done 🇬🇧😊

Thank you so much! We're glad you enjoy our videos☺️
So beautiful with the snow everywhere.
My mom when she was alive and I was just a little kid back in the late 50's used to be a seamstress sewing and creating the feathered, sequined, and mirrored costumes that the dance ladies wore out in Las Vegas. I know for a fact she would be very proud of you guys and your upholstering skills. Just short of being and looking like professional. Creativity like that is hard to find nowadays. I'll say it again that pull out bed design was and is a stroke of pure genius. Way to go!!!!And your string lights add a touch of warmth to that rest area. No room for side lamps? Have the whole ceiling light up for some late night reading. Keep up the excellent work!!! impressed, Me southern AZ.
I've been watching y'all since the first tree was fell! It sure has been a journey! AMAZING, is what I have to say. Happy Holidays to y'all! 👋😁👍😉

It's nice that you show what you eat. It's strange to us that most of your food comes from packages. Great channel, the best episode about your property ;) Greetings, Parys from Poland
I was so relieved to see the sewing machine. Thought you were going to hand sew the covers.

My wife and I live in our log cabin in Manitoba. We did not build it, as you did yours, but have spent the last decade fixing it. We are in the later stages of our life together, and we live watching you both on your most excellent adventure! We admire you and look forward to your continuing adventures. Salut - Deb and Bill
from the Italian Alps congratulations you are very good. HI---dalle alpi italiane complimenti siete bravissimi. ciao
I love your life.
My friend, I would place a full length pipe on the ridge of your roof with holes in several points. Then, in winter, to remove the snow, you would connect it to your fireplace, to heat the water, it would melt all the snow accumulated on the roof.
Looking GREAT !!! Stay warm
Very nice.

Hey guys, very nice work, I think upholsterers have to do 5 years apprenticeship so fair play!!! I remember having custom foam upholstered for a bay window seat and the guy added a layer of Dacron Polyester Wadding between the foam and the fabric, probably to help smoothing out the sharp angles. All the Best!!

And I have watched all
Lookin’ good! Comfy- cozy!
As with everything, you truly do things to perfection. I do a lot of mending for people which often requires replacing zippers in jackets and jeans. Without hesitation I can say I hate sewing zippers into anything, and the fact that you two not only put zippers in you created the covers themselves! I for one thank you did an awesome job same as with everything else that you've done!!!
Winning 😁
Ohooo … looks wonderful. ❤😊

No arguing, just working along side each other, tell the rest of us how you do that? I wanted to tell you i hope you make a million off your videos, these are so much better than Alaska the last frontier, or any of the other forced scripted reality shows of that nature. If i weren't old and disabled, i think i could build a cabin just from your shared videos!!
Parabéns ao casal pelo trabalho ,muito lindo feito com amor e bom gosto...👏👏
